The pump is covered for 10 years or 110k miles so the letter is pointless. Don't leave the mods on.

Also, it would be nice if someone can actually scan the letter once they get it. I never receive ANY mail from BMW and I've verified 10 times and they do have my correct address..

My car is at the dealer right now for a brake issue and they are trying to update the software AGAIN (just done in August as a recall). They said it didn't take in August (yeah right) and have to do it again. I think they're fishing for a tune (because my car has other mods) that isn't even there.

I asked them about the fuel pump recall and they are getting flooded with calls. They said that the ABC show was suppose to air next week, but the station moved it up a week, so BMW had to scramble to get a press release out.

No plan has even gone into effect, the recall notice is just to acknowledge the problem as a recall. No idea what they are going to do.

Will probably be a long time before anything happens.

kind of ironic that my car is in the dealer right now for long cranks and hopefully the wastegate retrofit.

I just hope they finally come out with true fix. not some band aid software "fix".

All of the owners who have not complained have not done so because they don't have a problem. Think about it. This is just a law firm drumming up business. BMW's press release is to just appease the complainers. They probably had this response ready to go a year ago. It should be shame on Good Morning America.

I am disappointed. BMW basically pulled a fast one on the public who's not abreast with hpfp. How is this any different than what they have been doing. This serves more as an public announcement than anything else. Still no disclosure of the root cause.

Dude, the fuel pump is flawed. Even with the recall, people are still going to get the same old fuel pump and will continue to have problems. Putting the issue in the public eye is a good thing. Lots of people who have had issues and replacements already probably don't even realize that the new pump could easily fail just like the original one in their cars. This will help educate the masses and maybe eventually BMW will be forced to address the issue properly.

Shame on BMW for not fixing this already, I say.

How recent is the 933 pump and will that make a difference?
Let alone the fact that many owners on this forum have had other
related issues, let alone the wastegate.

Come on, why did BMW come out with the N55 engine? In part because of
issues with the N54.

I am in the market looking at e92 335i's, so at this time I do not own one.

Regardless, imo your comments are ignorant and thoughtless. You feel that since you are familiar with the HPFP problems, and could handle the limp mode occuring on the highway that everyone else should handle it just as easily.

Have you no understanding that an older woman for example, who has no idea what a HPFP is or why her car would suddenly shut down while driving, could panic and potentially get into a wreck?

Not everyone expects their car to shut off in traffic and there are a million situations that could occur that would result in that situation ending very badly. Fortunately, nothing like that has occured yet.

I find it hard to believe that you or anyone else feels that it is acceptable for a car to go into a reduced power mode in traffic, and that the people driving should be able to handle it in all situations with no difficulty at all. That is shortsighted at best.

IT DOESNT MATTER...how many new versions of the pump have been out along with new software over HOW MANY YEARS???? Its the same old run around...there just announcing this to appease the public and not tarnish there image now for short term & for future turbo powered systems that they will produce, which is going to be most of there line up for the future...I dont think anyone knows wtf the fix is. Letters will be sent by First Class mail to owners of affected vehicles in the coming weeks, requesting the scheduling of a service appointment with an Authorized BMW Center to have the update performed.

BMW has never sent me a letter stating that I should come in to have my fuel pump replaced. All I got was a letter extending my warranty. After reading the announcement I am under the impression that BMW will send a letter to all affected owners, like a recall.

True, however I think the point people are making is that there is no indication whatsoever that BMW has finally figured out how to keep the pumps from failing. So, whether they replace your pump voluntarily (which is apparently going to happen with the recall), or you keep your original until it fails (as was standard procedure before) the end result is the same: you still have an HPFP that is prone to failure.

Had my car in for a scheduled service 2 weeks ago and they installed the software upgrade. First thing I noticed was a much more "intense" priming of the fuel pump when the door in opened. As soon as you touch the door handle, there is a much louder "spooling" which I'm guessing is the fuel system priming itself.

Im am sorry to announce that the recall/ software update will do nothing. We have had this problem with the hpfp's for over 3 years. Some people are on there 4th pumps as all of you know. There have been different pumps and different software in which none have worked to solve the problem. You think bmw came up with a magical solution in only a few hours to fix this since they havent been able to fix it in almost 4 years??? Doubtful...and look there have even been hpfp failures in the new N55. Something is wrong here
