I don't understand this thread. iPhones have been coming out in a predictable manner (besides this year's 3+ month delay) since their launch, both in spec and form. I've owned every iPhone (some multiple times), but only because I've been in the business of reselling and it costs me very little to upgrade every year. I find people have very diverse opinions, often because they don't understand how Apple/AT&T/jailbreaking/unlocking works and as a result have the opinion that Apple's products are expensive, restrictive, inferior, etc. I respect blackberrys and may even own one if I'm put in a position where I need to answer e-mails 24/7. I prefer my iPhone (and the reason I got my first one) simply because it combines an iPod and phone into one device which accomplishes both functions pretty damn well. I have yet to try a friend's Android/Win7 phone which I like enough to consider buying. We all have our opinions, and there are enough different phones to go around. I don't have a need to get every new device as it comes out, and usually stay with something until it breaks or no longer accommodates my needs technologically. Yet I have plenty of respect for apple because they have turned many consumers into precisely the type of people that do go out and get their devices as soon as they're updated, because they feel they "need" them. These are also typically the same people that do exactly what apple "recommends," don't modify their devices in any way, and dish out hundreds, thousands of dollars each year thinking it's a fair payment for what they get. If I accomplished that with my company's products, I'd be pretty damn happy. Last edited by yakev724; 10-05-2011 at 06:55 PM.. |

apple has a buy back "recycling program for older devices".
I put in iPhone 4 32gb, and it said that they would give me $200 for it : ). Wasn't thinking about upgrading. but if I can get the $200 trade in, that means I only have to really pay 99$ + 18 upgrade fee

You can start your own buyback program. Stand outside the Apple store on launch day with a bunch of cash and buy everyone's old phones. Sell and profit. |

As of right now (their offers change quickly), they're offering $357 direct to your Paypal for a good condition one, which is over $150 more than what Apple's offering. |

Millions of people bought the iphone 4 last year… it would be dumb for them not to let people upgrade early… considering the fact that the iphone 4s isnt much of a change from iphone 4, a lot of people arent going to be buying the iphone 4s right away and resulting in them losing money. Im not saying that the iphone 4s isnt going to sell because for sure it will do good. But it still will affect their sales expectations. If the new iphone 5 comes out and we bought the iphone 4s.. are they expecting us to pay the $250 again...?

This is the way Apple works. They do an especially good job of building perceived obsolescence into previous iPhones once a new version comes out. This isn't a big deal though, as iPhones tend to hold their value incredibly well (relatively speaking). I haven't been in the game since I sold my 3GS (had the original and the 3G before that), but if you JB'd and unlocked the phone, it was worth way more than you paid for it (especially selling to T-Mo users). I don't know if that has changed, but if you negate the service contract (which would have existed whether or not I had the iPhone), I made money on all of them. |

I think its laughable that people are so upset that there is no iPhone 5. This has been done already with the 3G and 3GS. I had a strong feeling that there would be a 4S and I am very happy with what they have done. It's faster, has an 8mp camera, 1080 HD recording and the new iOS5 technology is out of this world.
It's only logical that they come out with a 4S before releasing a completely new redesigned model. |

second, iterative improvements?! the networks are improving everyday. at&t will continue to roll out LTE in new markets (soon) on a weekly basis by the end of the year. not even considering the t-mo merger, they'll easily exceed vzw in LTE by 2014, making LTE possible in almost every corner of the US, unless the merger is blocked. but if att isn't your cup of tea, vzw already has LTE deployed in a ton of places, and will continue to build that network pretty much solely over any further CDMA improvements. i would say skipping any 4G talks by apple at this point is a huge oversight, as other phone mfg's are pushing the technology pretty hard right about now...and consumers want it just as much. the screen is also a big part of the improvement process. not updating the size of the screen is a huge detractor for many people. a bigger screen is just part of the process. even in the current case, the iphone could have easily squeezed a bigger, edgeless screen in there to appease people. they could have matched the current 4.5" standard by most of the other mfg's without giving up a huge amount of pocket space...but they didn't. it's just a disappointing release by apple. we all wanted them to go further than they did, because everyone else is, but they just threw us some more unicorn meat. |

Man, I just don't get this Android vs. Apple thing. People are so heated about it. Yes, I understand you love your respective cell phone operating system, but doesn't it all seem pretty elementary?
I've had both Android and Apple products, and currently have an iPhone 4. I loved Android for a lot of reasons, and I similarly love Apple for many reasons. I just don't think the two have to be mutually exclusive. There's room for everyone in the proverbial technology sandbox. Last edited by lucas.kent; 10-06-2011 at 09:29 PM.. |

Please don't try bringing reason into this argument. You're kind ain't welcome here.

I've owned many pcs and mobile phones. 2 years ago, I gave Apple a try. At the time, my pc was supposedly faster and better in most every way. However, I kept finding myself on the iMac. Why? Because it worked. No bugs. No issues. Just simply worked.
I now have 3 iMacs, 2 Nanos, and an iPad. All macs except one droid eris. Like my pc's: bugs, speed loss, short battery life... you name it. I was holding out for the iPhone 5 with LTE. Disappointed they didn't go there. However, based on my experience, I still plan to make the switch. |

I'm pretty sure he was being facetious.
His point was that fanboys make a mockery of this "discussion", and I would go a step further to say fanboys impede the progress of technology in this industry, regardless of whether they're Android, iOS, RIM, WP, or whatever... |
