That is good advice.
The R8 is VERY overrated. It's SUPER cheap inside despite the cost of the car being so high. It's performance also doesn't match it's cost. They always compare the R8 V8 to the base 911 when it costs almost as much as a 911 Turbo. However, they never try and make that comparison. The 360 is a very expensive car to maintain and it isn't particularly fast for the price. The 430 is more reliable and is a friggin' BEAST!!! If you can go for the 430, I would go for that for sure. |

Someone on Jalopnik said something like this while talking about the new F12berlinetta: "Like all Ferarris, you're buying an engine with some car wrapped around it"...

Thanks for all the advice guys...
Main thing is I want a mid-engine stunner staying in the 80 to 90k range. Everyone who is advising me to to step it up to the 430 or v10...what exactly constitutes "a little bit more" for you guys. A 430 with similar mileage goes for nothing less than 135k and a v10 with the same options and mileage is 130k. Im paying for this thing outright and not eating away at more of my money "to do it right".... The only other option would be to lease a new r8, but the numbers really have to make sense. I believe the two choices laid out are phenomenal cars and both equally gorgeous in their own right. I'm leaning a bit more towards the R8....we will find out this weekend.

I say R8, but I'm not a huge fan of silver. I'd stay away from a Ferrari that old, because I think that to spend 80k on a Ferrari is kind of a douchey move, from a brand-whore sense. Something along the lines of "I just bought a Ferrari, it's 10 years old and I saved a bunch of money by getting it used." I also say Audi because for the reliability aspect. Watch the first 40 seconds of this and you'll get what I'm saying.
Even if it's only a weekend car, you still want it to work when you want to go and use it. That why I say R8. |

Maybe for you it's the base model 911 that compare with the R8 but in my book , the equivalent of the AWD 420hp R8 is a lot more the AWD 385hp 4S then the 350hp RWD base model ! Also SUPER cheap interior is not really how I would describe this : |

For that price, if I was looking for performance, I would get a GTR. If I was looking for something with style I would get a very slightly used Vantage....... but that's just me.

The R8 is WAY overpriced for what you get. This is the same basic motor as the RS4 which is basically the same as an M3. The Ferrari is just too dated and is an underperformer by today's standards. Really....you will disappointed even compared to your M3. Honestly for $90-100k, I would look for a 2007-2009 911 turbo.

Based on reviews on 6speed they seem to be very reliable. Only words of caution were the usual "get PPI, stay away from early e-gear etc." Between those two cars listed I don't know which I would choose. Probably R8 EDIT: Sorry OP, checked cars.com and Gallardo's are more expensive than I thought. Would be at the top of your budget. Last edited by Twinbo; 03-08-2012 at 06:09 PM.. |

I say go for the Ferrari. The R8 is nice but like others have mentioned it will have basically the same performance as your M3.
Never driven a 360 but I did take a 430 for a spin and it was absolutely intoxicating. The sound of that v8 behind your ears is like non other. I'm sure the 360, or any Ferrari for that matter, would offer a similar experience. Plus would you rather say I drive a Ferrari or an Audi |

Gallardo, I know it isn't one of the two options, but it's in your price range, it's modern looking, great performance, V10 soundtrack, not much else to say.

360 has the most beautiful lines. When they came out with the F430, they pushed the rear lights up to where the Enzo has it's situated and started with the harder "F-117" angles which killed the smooth flow of the 360. Nevermind the completely redesigned 485. That thing just looks likes a Lotus (all technical advancements aside). :/
Anyway, I vote for the 360. One of the most beautiful Ferrari's ever produced. |

The spyder is drop dead gorgeous. I wouldn't consider an R8 unless it was the spyder (and I don't like topless cars) and it had a V10. |

IMHO dont get both , only if you are s status guy. R8 V8 is sluggish and also f360. I know some may say you stop bs around but yes, its not really that fast. Only go for v10 r8 but seems that its out of your budget. If you want something performance go for gtr

Seriously...what a freaking decision you have in fornt of you my friend. I say, screw both of them, spend a fraction of the cost to SC your M3 w/ one of those lovely VF620 or 650 kits, wheels, coils, etc., and smoke any R8 or 360...and have some money to take me, your new boy-toy on a shopping spree to also buy a sc for his M3. Just saying...we can work it out. [wink] [wink] ..... j/k [flame suite off]
