What are the benefits of this DIY plastidip over just buying vinyl wrap and wrapping the car yourself? The Vinyl wraps for the whole car don't cost very much (less than plastidip) and the prep-time is about the same as well. You also get an even finish with wrapping (i noticed streaking on the hood of his S4, and trunk, as with all plastidip videos I've seen). You also get to choose carbon fibre texture with wraps.

Will do, but it will have to wait until the weekend. I did it in a dimly lit garage, so when I pulled out this morning there were definitely still some areas that needed to be touch up.

It's matte black ill try to get more but that's the glossy finish of several coats
Edit: here they are. You can tell the back would need another coat but they'll be fine for our needs. The first coat should go on light and the others thicker. After about 2-3 coats it should be thick enough to peel off like 3m vinyl. I can only use my blackberry for pictures so that's as good as they'll get Last edited by E86Z; 04-18-2012 at 01:38 PM.. |

No... You can buy vinyl wrap for the whole car under $200-300. It's Vinyl, not leather.

<$300 CAD. Comes in different colours, and I've seen whole car wrap rolls for $200. Just have to look. And no, it does not cost $200-300 for vinyl wrap coverage for a roof.

Thanks for pics. Came out great IMO. You're never going to get the quality of paint but that looks good I think. The best thing is you can peel it off.

I'm not sure if that's true. But the whole question was about what the benefits of Plastidip were over vinyl. I'm sure even cheap vinyl wouldn't leave streaks like from the Plastidip applications. To my knowledge, the vinyl is advertised to have a "Long life span, up to 7 years" and be "UV and water resistant".
Plastidip have the same benefits? What I was trying to get at is for the same price, you could vinyl wrap your car instead.

^ Yeah I agree. I would prefer a vinyl wrap for the car I think. I just think plastidip would be an ideal solution for changing your wheel colour because you can always change it back if you change your mind. Also, I've seen some people use it for trim etc.

I knew they weren't that expensive because a member here had wrapped his car in Matte Black, and the materials didn't cost more than $150 for him. I believe, if I remember correctly, he took the vinyl off after 8 months and everything was still fine. And his application looked the same as any other vinyl wrap, came out great too!
