No problem. Our main focus is to build custom computer hardware based on individual needs/requirements for personal, enterprise, small business, or research use. We also do IT consulting, etc to figure out what your company/lab needs, and make recommendations on what you should get.

Cool field. Are you the one who's finally going to invent the interface so we can all jack into the Matrix?

Mine was Nonlinear Optics. Good for about 10 years of fun research jobs, writing a bunch of papers and playing the quasi-academic game - then another 15+ years of less exciting, but more remunerative, aerospace/defense stuff. Hey, it pays for all the BMW and Canon toys I seem to want, so I can't complain.

Sounds interesting... not exactly sure what you did with non-linear optics though.

I saw this and thought it was a pretty cool design for a dSLR body cap... but $100? that's seems like a giant waste of money.

Nice, but way too pricey. I also wonder about the metal to metal contact when it comes to bumps and vibrations while transporting a body around like that. I would think with a traditional cap the plastic on the cap would sustain damage first and spare the body ring, which is by design. Probably a trivial concern, though.

Holy crap! It used to be that Canon's top end glass was just a touch cheaper than the comparable Nikon. Looks like "price parity" or even "price plus" is the name of the game now.

I'm sure the initial run of the old lenses was priced higher then what it ended up at too, I'm sure these prices will fall over time, just not yet.

Yes, I was contemplating it the other day. I may spring for the 500mm, if things pick up financially between now and year-end. I paid $6100 for my Series I about 16-months ago and I could sell it for that today, so I'm looking at the difference and considering that they hold their value well.

OTOH, I was Jonesing to move up to the new, lighter 600mm, but the new price there swatted my ambition into the weeds. If I get the Series II 500mm, I'll also get both Series III TCs (faster AF than the S-II) and consider springing for a used 1D MkIV to take advantage of all the new speed.

Well, one good thing, if shortage is ever good, is that most of this will not be availalble until late 2011 or maybe even 2012. Since I'm short on funds right now, that works best for me.

Someone here even had a great deal on a 16-35mm f/2.8L that's on my wish list, but I forced myself to resist. I checked on B&H and they're backordered for 16-35mm lenses.

i love my 16-35 2.8, i use it for a lot of walking around when i'm traveling.

it's nice and wide on the 5DII, don't think i really have a need to ever go wider unless i pick up a fisheye.

Yeah, I'm also thinking about the 8-15mm, which goes from round fisheye to ultra-wide rectangular on the 5D MkII, PLUS my DxO Optics Pro software will take the round fisheye image and lay it out into a ultra-ultra wide angle image. The idea of a fisheye-only doesn't appeal to me, but going into ultra-wide and the occasional fisheye image has its attractions.

Right now, with my 24-105mm, I often find myself out at 24mm looking for a little more width.

yeah, i max out my 24-70 on a regular basis, so i just tend to leave the 16-35 on most of the time now. if 35 isn't close enough to an object, i just walk closer.

If 24 isn't wide enough, it's not necessarily as convenient to walk backwards to get a shot, often there are walls, fences, and roads behind you.

This is where the 10-22mm shines. Of course it's not an L lens, so....

on a full frame camera when used it is roughly the same as the 16-35mm, however the edges get rounded quite strongly.

Yeah, or fall off a cliff here in Colorado.

Digital is wonderful since no matter what lens we have on, we can always stitch together two or three or six or eight.
