Truth! I was outside a few days ago with temps in the upper 30's F changing the steering wheel airbag in the almost-Mighty Freightliner, and my fingers were frozen numb just trying to feel for the first T30 Torx screw with a 3/8 socket drive bit.

When I came inside about 10 minutes later, I had to run my hands under hot water to get some feeling back.....

I was outside this past weekend assembling Christmas animals in the yard, and had to come inside and put a shirt on.

WINTER IS COMING!!!

Went to the cardiologist's office yesterday and had some routine tests done: a cardiac stress test; walk/run on a treadmill while an EKG examines my heart's activity, and an echocardiogram; uses soundwaves that makes images of the heart and nearby blood vessels. Both non-invasive. Was there from 9am to 2:30. The stress test was from 9am to 12pm. Then hung around till 1pm for the echocardiogram. Get results next week.

3 hour stress test? I had one about a year ago and I don't think I was there more than an hour. Same thing it sounds like, walking on a treadmill with a web of wires hanging off of me.

Hopefully your results are all good news.

Maybe he had a nuclear stress test. Had one back in September and it takes 4ish hours. They inject isotopes of some sort, let those circulate then comes the tread mill test. Once your done there the take a scan to see if there blockages/parts of the heart not getting enough blood.

Ah, I see. Mine was just an EKG while on the treadmill. I had shown the cardio doc some of my heart rate charts from my rides where I had a sustained HR of 150-180 for an hour or more. He wanted an actual EKG under stress just to make sure, but he said if I've been riding that hard and never had dizziness or chest pain, it was very unlikely that I had any blockage. I didn't know about the isotope bit. I would have asked him about it.

First step is a scan/test to get a calcium score. That gives you a feel for how much calcium build up there is in/around the heart. Zero is ideal but the score goes up to over 1,000. Anything above 300 and there are concerns of potential blockages. Given a strong family history of heart issues I was tested and had a score of 325 and this is what drove the nuclear test. Passed, no blockages and the echocardiogram was clear as well. The nuclear test still involves the treadmill with EKG but they do the scan immediately after the treadmill to check to bloodflow around the heart.

If you’ve never had it, talk to your cardiologist about it. Insurance usually doesn’t cover the calcium score scan but it only costs around $100.

^^^ This is so true. I’d tell mom I was going to “Joe’s” house and “Joe” would
tell his mom he was going to my house. Instead, we’d meet at a pre-arranged
point and off we’d go… to the RR, junkyard, bowling alley, mineshafts, our tree
fort, our tree swing, etc.

My Mom would have had a fit if she knew half the stuff we were doing. On any given day, especially during the summer, if you asked my Mom where her kids were, she would say, "they're out somewhere" but have no clue at all exactly where. And this was perfectly normal.

Weren't we all? "Come home when the street lights come on," mom would say to me.
