got the 3rd LED garage light installed by the front of the bay!

also completed the last row of the RacDeck tiles since i had to wait for the wall to finish drying from the new paint!

and for the step that goes into the house here's what i was able to do incorporate using the leftover RaceDeck tiles. let me know what you think or what i could've done instead

There are also "garage" refrigerator/freezers out there. IIRC, the key is that the temp gauge in the freezer is primary or at least separate. The issue with "normal" refrigerators is that the cold air comes from the freezer, but is regulated by the refrigerator sensor, thus if it's say 36* in your garage, the refrigerator will stay cool enough that the compressor won't need to run, so all the stuff in the freezer will/could melt.

I might not be remembering that correctly, though.

I like the step. If it were me, I'd probably incorporate some form of diamond plate rubber black tread on top. Garage looks great man, you've given me garage envy. Makes me want to start on mine already.

Used to skateboard and all too familiar with grip tape and I don't recommend it for your application. My father had the same idea after my purchasing of a new roll of grip tape for my deck as a teenager.

A. Dirt and mud will get down into the grain. It can be cleaned, but when wet, it renders the kung-fu grip action slick as snot on a door knob until it dries. In the meantime, it looks like shit until you clean it with a brush.

B. Socks, if you step on that stuff with socks, its going to shred them. White fuzzies in the grip tape and worn out socks.

C. It's agressively....."grippy." It shreds skin if you hit your shin on it. Trust me, your wife will not approve.

Also, just to mention; the paint that can be used in this application will have the same features, but to the general consumer trying to apply the non-slip paint, the results are never pretty. However, I've seen your handy work. I think you'd be fine applying it and making it look how it should, but again, it's just another form of the same issues as above.

I don't like to shoot down other people's ideas without offering a solution at the same time; so peep these.

The one thing that gets me is how the actual tread appears to overhang the base. It seems a bit too wide for the step itself. Personal thought is to enlarge/box over the small step and make it bigger. Then cover the riser w/ the tiles. That's an answer to a question no one asked, though.

Garage is looking sharp!

Been working on the garage. Got the last bigger project done tonight with about 30,000 lumens @5,000K run in series and raceway to tuck the wiring. Not entirely happy with the raceway to pull from the hardwire location of the original single fluorescent, but the rest looks pretty good. May end up rewiring, but I’m happy for now.

Built some overhead shelves and a new workbench. Installed an Air King. Got a new toolbox/workbench along with some new tools. Mounted a 4K TV (looks high, but will be putting pegboard and shelf under). Organized all lawn equipment and ladders (looks better than that picture shows... ).

To be done is mounting a light under the shelves over the workbench (LED panel for drop ceilings), build something to mount my spare hoses on the wall, and get a motorcycle lift to get back on my Honda CB project.

Stucco scratch coat and stone lath

Scratch coat and TnG installed in the back

Fireplace installed and insulation going in

The city delayed us about a week for electrical and roofing inspections. I'm hoping they can get moving on drywall installation because the tile/hardwood delivery is already scheduled for next week.

Just finished a dresser/cabinet for the wife that she designed. Will replace a workbench of similar dimensions she stole from my shop since it was a good size for what she wanted apparently. (and will look much nicer)

In the intended room. I swear everything is not crooked, the fisheye style lens just makes it look that way.

My latest home project has been a big hardware and network upgrade.

The machine that I've used for several years as a Plex server and a NAS and a media editing workstation was starting to struggle to transcode some of the 4K content I've recently acquired. It's a giant Dell Precision T7500 from about 2009, nicely spec-ed but a little long in the tooth. I decided to build up a new monster workstation, starting with a Dell Precision T7910 chassis that I bought refurbished. Threw in 2 12-core Xeons running at 2.4 GHz and 128 GB of RAM. Added 4 12TB SAS drives for the NAS duties. And an Intel dual-port 10Gb Ethernet HBA. And an Nvidia GTX 1080 video card.

Taking advantage of the fact that I have Cat 6e wires in the walls and 10Gbe Ethernet gear is now available used and is somewhat reasonably priced, I upgraded all my Ethernet gear to 10Gbe. A new 8-port switch in my coms closet and a 4-port switch in my AV cabinet. The old NAS server, which has been repurposed as a backup server, and my HTPC both got new Intel 10Gbe HBAs.

My WiFi access point had exhibited some flaky behavior lately, so I decided to upgrade that too as long as I was frittering away cash. I went with an Engenius EAP1300. Speeds are really good and it's rock-solid.

I'm seeing great throughput on everything. The 10Gbe network runs at its expected nominal speed. The new Plex/NAS box transcodes 70Mb/s 4K content with ease. I can routinely hit 350 Mb/s from my phone on the new WiFi.

That sounds good, I'm all for faster wifi/networking speeds, but that was complete gibberish to me lol

Got the lights in the washbay wired up. Its all technically removable since a carport cant have electrical. I have since cleaned it up a little better, but its all basically an extension cord. This is plugged into the outdoor plug already in the cabinet.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then I ran the wiring through conduit to a weatherproof plug in the eave in of the carport, the lights plug into that and the plug is controlled by this switch.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Now I can light up the carport/washbay with the flip of a switch, and not have to run an extension cord when I want to use the lights.
