if you have a Mac, you can also look into Thunderbolt... it's blazing fast, even when compared to USB 3.0

It's good for protection, plus it lets me place it face down on a flat surface when changing lenses.

lots of portabe and self powered hard drives.
like rodi says, if you have portable hard drives, you can edit anywhere you go and not worry about taking the stuff with you. I tend to carry a laptop in my vehicle (hidden of course and old and not worth much) which i back stuff up to almost immediatly, then when i get home, i import onto my PC. that way if anything goes wrong, i still have the files. I will delete them off the laptop at a later date after verifying all files are uncorrupted, then i start my editing process and then will back everything up on an external hard drive. this sounds over complicated, but it's really just hooking up the camera to two different devices as a safety. I'm forgetfull and i've formatted a card before without backing it up, and that's not fun, luckily it was all goofing around and nothing serious. This is why the laptop that follows me around. |

Another question for you guys...
I wanted to make a photobook for some family members that live outside the US. It'll probably be the same photobook, but printed multiple times. Any suggestions on how to start making one? Does Lightroom allow you to do something like this? What company do you recommend I use to print it out? I need it within a month, and it'll probably take me two weeks to create all the pages for it.

Snapfish, Apple and several others have photobook tools that you can use to make your PB. I've used Snapfish and it's very easy to use but somewhat limited in the changes that you can make to its stock formatting. Still, for less than 30-bucks each you can produce leather bound books with about 20-pages each. I've started a book on MyPublisher, but haven't finished it yet. MyPublisher is allowing me more options in formatting, but cost more than Snapfish.

There's a groupon out right now for Mixbook, so I was considering to try that. But, I'm really a novice at this and I don't know what to look for. I was leaning towards a hardback (not leather) landscape book.

Leather is hardback covered with leather. You can do linen and some other finishes. You can also have a dust jacket or put an image on the cover or have the image show through a cutout in the cover. There are all kinds of options.
What I like about MyPublisher is that I put captions under the image, on the image, beside the image, etc., etc. and select black, white or colors to have the caption show well if it's on the image. Dave

gary, you should go all out and get the 85mm f/1.2L
The images I've seen from that lens are nothing short of amazing... mmmm... bokeh. (just reminded myself of Homer when I said that).

Not really worth it on a 1.6x sensor IMO.
Also I don't feel like eating nothing but Ramen for a year.

Sigma 85 1.4. less than half the price of the Canon 1.2. Much faster focusing than the 1.2. Only real issue is that it's a Sigma and they can be hit or miss.

Looking at the subject, it's probably the Italian Federal police and Interpole. 500 views with very few comments means it's probably being used on a commerical site. You might use www.tineye.com to see if you can find the site; however, many imbed the image in such a way that it can't be detected. Dave

I love my 6MT. With the 4.10 final drive it's perfect for autocross; however, for most drivers, including road racers, I'd recommend the DCT.
