Still my question is what BMW will compete with the CLS?

Also, what is this? A 6er or an 8er?
If you look at the current 6 Series, it is a mix of platforms really with the 6GC being built on the 7 Series platform (F0x) and the Coupe and Convertible being built on the 5 Series platform (F1x).

BMW seems to streamline their model designations. Base models are 1, 3, 5 and 7 series. With additional models being +1 on these. So 2 series is built on the 1 series platform, 4 series on the 3 series platform and so on.
That would make a new 6GC an 8 series.
The same goes for the X platforms by the way. X4 built on X3, X6 on X5, etc.

Will there be a coupe or convertible of the G3x platform under the 6 series name? No idea.
So far I've only heard of the G32 as the 6GT to replace the current 5GT (which by the way is really a 7 series car as is evident by the F07 designation)
But why is not the 3GT a 4GT then? No idea there either...

Patiently awaiting the Z upgrade/replacement announcement. 2 seats FTW! (or at least while I'm still youngish.)

are we talking 4WD with optional 100%RWD drift mode?

and one more thing: can we expect a F80 M3 CS/CRT...?
(and if so ... when? limited?)

Will (the upcoming M3) be offered with the manual transmission? Can we expect it to be on sale in 2019 or 2020?

This proove that the new 2 serie coupé/convettible will be based on the 35up Platform (with a specific variant).

For the future, every chassis coded with the F (except the new M5) will means that are FWD based; on the other hand when you'll see the Gcode before the chassis number, means RWD based. That's what I know.

Yep. We touched on that when he first posted:

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...&postcount=948

However, as I noted, theoretically it could be any RWD platform.

Exactly. Though in addition to the F90 M5, there will be the F97 X3 M and F98 X4 M. There may be others yet too. But for all non-M CLAR vehicles, yes, they will be Gxx.

I have no immediate update on the next generation M3/M4 just that there will be in the next generation series. BMW did say that manuals will continue to be offered on the M2,M3 and M4. But were done for the M5 and upwards.
At the moment M5 is in its advanced stage of development and the X3 M is in progress but I hear the M5 is phenomenal. And the X3 M in its early stages of development is impressive.
I will hopefully soon get behind the wheel of the X2 M35i I have heard it is an amazing "gym" bag.

Thanks a lot! So the new M2 will be certainly offered with the manual!

A re-engined 530i, 540i and M550xi could we see a 4cyl in the 540i and a 6 cyl in the 550i?

Very unlikely. I suspect an updated B58 in the 540i and the new 4L V8 in the 550i.

The upcoming 540e will give you I6-like power from four cylinders with the help of eDrive, and there are hints at a 550e with V8-like power from six cylinders with the help of eDrive sometime in the next few years as well.

540e will upgrade on 530e by using the 530i engine on the gas side vs. 520i like 530e does.

Or, in other words, 530e = 520i + electric motor, and 540e = 530i + electric motor.

Production moving to Mexico for the 4GT doesn't sound very appealing (to me). Have there been any leaked pix/drawings out for this model? There already is the X4M...so one has to ask..'why a 4GT'?

There's a clear difference between F34 and F26. If G24 (or G26?) design moves in the direction of F36, there will be even less shared consumer interest between it and G02. Moreover, international markets still prefer cars to SUVs.

I suppose...but still. And Mexico production? I'm sorry..just not appealing for a German car...regardless if the machines/robots are the same ones, etc. Unfortunately, the stigma is still there. And no, I'd prefer not to buy any car built there..regardless of manufacturer.

Well, with SOP confirmation on the G20, I'm debating whether I lease a 340i F30 in June 2018 when my lease is up and wait until 2021 to finally get in a G20 or buy a 2016 CPO B8.5 S4 as a change of pace then be free to order whenever I feel like making the switch.

You're right about the 5GT but the GranCoupe is basically a coupe that's been stretched about 4.4 inches. It isn't any 'closer' to a 7er than a coupe or convertible except for the number of doors.
