My first BMW was a 1974 R90/6 with S fairing.
I bought it used and kept it for 30 years.

I am a real newbie. Finally got my first in 2022 M550. This car is an outstanding combination of performance and comfort. I’ve had many cool cars over the years. This one is close to the top.

My first BMW was a E65 745i. Titanium Grey Over Stone Green. Purchased it with 7 miles and drove it until 246,545. I still owed 10,000 when it stopped running. First car, first lesson about financing lol. I was 19.

1988 E30 318i which we later converted with the S14 engine from an Italian 320is
Lots of time spent on the drive way with that, the original M40 engine suffered from oil starvation on a track day, so we looked for a new engine. An old friend in Italy had a 320is which had been smashed up, so we bought the engine from him (and drove from Sheffield to Brindisi and back in an old Volvo 740. I’ve no idea where the car is now, we sold it to a guy near Amsterdam! |

Mine was a 2001 TiAg 330ci 5 speed.
I bought it when I was 15, I knew that's what I wanted as my first car and had been saving up for years. I didn't quite have my license yet but I did have my permit and I was so stoked. Bid on and won it on eBay and it was a great car. |

My first Bimmer was a 1994 black e34 530i with 80k miles. Not what most 20 somethings with a job would buy but I felt so cool driving it. And for long road trips home to see Mom it was perfect. Ultimately I did off road gymnastics with it. A sudden snow storm blew in to central Arkansas. I hit a patch of ice under an overpass, slide and did a complete barrelroll landing on my tires facing backwards. So lucky I was able to walk away from it with nothing more than minor bruises.
Since then I've owned a 2001 M3 convertible. I've now got a two owner 2005 M3 with 50k miles. And just last week I purchased a 2007 M Coupé in exceptional condition. |

E39..2003 530i. Bought used with 50,000 miles and 5 years old. Kept for 12 months. An extremely nice drive but the worst car I’ve ever owned. I stayed away from the brand for 15 years because of this experience. The previous owner purchased new, a garage queen, driven by the older wife of a college president. I experienced the following; exploding radiator, leaky valve guides, bad ball joints, water leaks both rear doors, bad fuel sensor, disappearing pixels in the dashboard, snd screwed up emission controls. Awesome paint, not one rattle, great ride. I loved and hated that thing…. Once it started burning 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles I dumped it. I like my 2024 IX I leased six months ago but we’re not off to a great start…spent 60 days in the shop awaiting a replacement coolant valve. Good dealer and BMW took care of me but I won’t own a BMW without a warranty.

My first BMW is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. I'm quite excited to drive it. I had my last car for almost ten years now and it's time for a change - moving from Ford sedan to BMW SUV
