Because there is the BMW i8. It may not be the sports car you want.
But in terms of exclusivity, originality and innovation its the one that is deserved.

Did anyone catch the Formula E race this past weekend? Pretty dam cool if u asked me!!!
The genius of the i3 is that it does not look conventional. From its Carbon structure to post futuristic design highlights possibly one of the decades most talked about car's. Its a science project on wheels that looks like it stepped out from the future. It is not a conventional Electric car its purpose is that it offers sustainable mobility as a mega-city vehicle.

I think it's room for it to do reasonable well.
The i6 sounds like the rumored i5, but 2020 is about 4 years, should be here sooner.
The Coupe,Cabrio and Gran Coupe proposals are spun off the same(although not final) design. Therefore it makes sense to use the same platform matrix.

The 9er is actually a large sedan not a Coupe. It is shared with the next RR Phantom therefore advanced material engineering costs are shared. Therefore cost effective to apply.
The 9er will not be a typical BMW as only chosen specialised dealers will offer the car. The experience will be similar to customer exclusivity provided by Rolls-Royce.
The 9er is to reflect the driver that wants a more exclusive luxury BMW. It is aimed at the Maybach-Mercedes but the BMW CEO has stated that 9er should not mistake the driver as the Chauffeur. Which the Mercedes Maybach does.

The next seeds of BMWi will be showcased in 2016. But like the original i3 and i8 they will be conceptual. As progress towards production more production ready concepts will be shown. But like the original i3 and i8 they need to showcase the conceptual idea. The good news is that this is the next phase of BMWi and again you are going to see something that is strongly visual but most important for the brand once again highly original.

The only 8er the company reflect on these days is the BMW i8.

Still, the idea that such a gem would see production, is a cuase for rejoicing.
The entry Rolls-Royce will always be the Ghost. As BMW has no desire to enter downmarket.
Bentley have to now because of the DieselGate adventure.
Parent company if rumours in Germany's industry sector are to be believed?
State that they need product. Product to expand, product that is profitable and product to inject more cash into the company which is why the sacrifice of exclusivity for these esteemed brands is about to begin.

Hmmm.. But granted it is IMO the best looking car currently available to buy, by a country mile. Merry Xmas all

Sad though. The 8's get overlooked more often than not.

The best part of this whole thread is the repeated use of the phrase "9er".

The company has created a great rival to the S-Class (G12 7er) but doesn't want to create an S-Class Coupé and 4 door Coupé rival (8er Coupé and 8er Gran Coupé)?

Its all to do with a very, very convincing machine called the M2.
There will be a UKL based 2er Gran Turismo.
There is going to be a radical shift in the C segment. The 1er as it stands will be superseded by a new Sport hatch built on the UKL architecture which will be identified as the 2er. Its all to bring alignment to MINI Episode IV which will be a C segment car like the current 1er. A new 1er will be a twin sister to the upcoming mini-MINI.

If the next main MINI model will be a C segment compact car, the mini MINI will actually be a B segment car like the current MINI. Therefore there won't be any actual mini MINI like the Rocketman, correct?

I am also very skeptical of this, though it's what we've been told in other threads. But then I am still skeptical of the entire 1/2 breakdown as it has been discussed in this thread. I still think the most likely scenario is that everything below the 3 will be FWD/AWD.

Quote:
Best case scenario however would be if the 1 series includes its sub-current-1series models as hatch or sedan, and then also includes the AT/GT all under the 1 series name. Then build the whole 2 series line up (hatch 5door, Coupe, Gran coupe, convertible) using the new CLAR chassis.
I just don't see that as a possibility since they will have named the 2 AT/GT with the future in mind. Recall also a recent thread about the "2 Series Sedan" concept, which was a FWD UKL car.

So you guys are saying the i8 can be in the same league as the R8 and AMG GTS? Lol. Only in price and exclusivity maybe. If I remember correctly the i8 lost in a quarter mile to the Macan turbo S.

By "rival" I meant in performance which the i8 is nowhere near those other 2.

Bmw could use the i8 as the basis of it with say an s63tu and battery motor, some nice suspension, brakes, cup 2 tires like all the fancy high end cars get and vuala it would probably destroy the other 2. Call it the i8M ?. Too bad it's been stated that i division and M division will never cross swords

Why are you comparing a sports car that has an unmatched philosophy against a High performance SUV?
The i8 is possibly the worlds most unique car at the same price. Its unique philosophy can only be found in multi-million dollar or euro sports cars at the plus end of the market.it also offers more physically from construction and individuality from similar priced sports cars.
Comparisons of the BMW i8 against sports cars like the AMG GT or Audis R8 or even the Tesla Model S warrant only one thing. The publication or tester is clueless.

The company has a direct clear strategy so we will see more concepts that investigate further and expand on current niches from BMW.
We prefer the term "Sheer Driving Pleasure" that's what BMW stands for.
"The Ultimate Driving Machine" is a slogan for English speaking markets. It is not used anywhere else.
We have customers who were invited to exclusive concept VFL previews globally that see potential for a more exclusive and individual car from BMW.
BMW certainly has the potential to bridge to Rolls-Royce with the 9er and the X7.

The Rocketman was not that far off from the original MINI introduced in 2001.
So there is still space to manoeuvre. At the point you can term that the current MINI is C segment especially with the 5dr and new Clubman.

Not at this time no. Because the biggest segment is the SUV segment so the luxury BMW X7 is the highest priority. As is a BMWi. Crossover.
Not forgetting the BMW X2, New MINI Countryman and Coupe, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, BMW XCite plus many others.

I wasn't the one who did the comparison test of the i8 and Macan turbo S I was just stating that it was tested against a truck and lost. Hell the M4 would beat it in many ways.

You and a few others were the ones who said Bmw does make a car that competes with the amg GTS and R8 and said it was the i8. These cars are nowhere in the same league performance wise is all I was saying. Also that a starting point is there for a 2 door 2 seater performance orientated sports car. Not just a show out hybrid.

Genius of the i3 made me laugh. The car is one of the ugliest vehicles on the road, albeit with some decent technology underpinning and powering it. I wouldn't take one if you gave it to me. A FWD 2-series GC sounds like they'll be plenty to go around since no one will want the thing . I hope BMWNA comes to their senses on a few of the rumored models. Make the 2 GC a RWD platform and actually sell some. <smh>

Mother of brand dilution! When's BMW's Corolla and Civic competitor coming out?

Un-XCiting times ahead for BMW. Time to abandon ship!
