Rocket engines? We used to build models, then break open rocket engines and put them inside with some firecrackers. Then we would make a trail (aka fuse) of model cement (or other flammables) leading a "safe" distance away and ignite. We would also light the end of a wiffle ball bat and drop "nepalm" on models, matchbox cars, army men, whatever. It made a very cool sound when it dripped and I'm sure the fumes were chock full of vitamins and minerals Blissful 1970s childhood fun |

We whacked a few street lights, but our favorite game was tormenting the owner of a nearby wrecking yard. Three or four of us would meet at a little rock outcropping in a field across the RR tracks from the wrecking yard. On a count of 3, we'd launch the marbles into the junk. A dog would start barking, then the flood lights would come on, followed by the dude shading his eyes while looking out into the darkness.
He'd give up and return to his TV football game, then we'd repeat the whole deal again. ![]()

There is some kind of plant/weed (no, not THAT one) that used to thrive in the "river bottom" that started about 5 house from mine. Then it was 25 houses from mine. Now it's all covered by houses and a golf course, golf course being on top of the old landfill.
That smell harkens me back to finding and hiding Playboys in the fields. Then I remember that time I was hit while riding my bicycle, by a motorcycle, in said fields. Did anyone else ride with snakebellies??? Yellow snakebellies on a black Diamondback that you painted about once a summer by completely stripping it all down, hanging by the bottom bucket in the garage, then putting it back together freshly lubed?
