Right- rwd. I feel it was a nicer set up. But I’ve read it was also more expensive to produce

It’s more the packaging, harder to make a smaller car with more interior space without making it longer and as with the original X1 more estate looking than SUV.

It’s part of the reason that the X1 has a little more interior space than an X3 in some directions but it’s smaller overall. Better then for weight, economy, which is why smaller BMWs are FWD now not RWD, X1, 1 series etc.

X1 would make a nice ev in the US- surprised it’s taking so long to convert one…

In most other makets the iX1 is available as an EV in two different power levels. Quite popular but for whatever reason BMW US don't want to import it, I presume due to low demand compared to other markets.

Shame- it’s probably FWD and would be okay in northern US where it snows.

With all of the dct /Start stop drama-might just be smoother. Even if it was a hybrid. Eliminating stop start all together.

I don’t know about full hybrids, but
the new mild hybrids BMW uses still do the start/stop thing. It’s less noticeable though.

I don’t know if there are any B48 mild hybrids but had B58 w/ the 48v mild hybrid in my last four X3s and now non-hybrid in our X1s I can say there’s not really any perceptible difference- the ASS is the same.. ass

It was just easier to defeat before, but still had that exact same “feel”

Our other car is a 2025 M340xi (with the B58), and I don’t even really feel it restart a good percentage of the time in that car, so maybe it’s been refined since you got your X3s?

The current 330i, 430i, X3 30, and 530i all have the B48 and 48V mild hybrid system.

Maybe the annoyances with ASS are a subtle way of getting everyone into BEVs. There’s absolutely no hesitation off the line in an iX1 or iX2!

maybe possible they improved logic... it was ever so slightly better from the pre LCI 2019 to the 2022 ~ but really just barely and hard to quantify - I just think the tuning overall on the 2022's was more refined

it just isnt good overall why so many people go out of their way to disable. I have driven cheapo rental cars that have it - some hybrid, some not, and they seem to be less harsh - dont have that crap my car stalled feeling - nor the "I'm pressing the gas is it going to go?" when the light changes feel

I’ve got a 2021 X3 and the ASS is seemless would never even consider turning it off it reacts faster than me to start. There have been zero times I’ve ever needed to turn it off. The X1 with MHT I’ve driven where the same.

Personally I don’t understand the obsession with turning it off but each to their own I guess. Would rather save money and the planet but others prefer other things as priorities I guess.

I can assure you that the use of ASS will have no effect on the planet.

If you were bringing up kids in a house near a busy set of traffic lights you’d be very grateful for the improvement in air quality that ASS brings.

Those of us with chronic lung conditions also appreciate the reduced air pollution from car emissions. 😀

L1 on 2.8

I drove a X1 xdrive 2.8 loaner for a day using L instead of D.
As discussed before, "L" disable start/stop (for 2.8)
It shifts from L1 to L6 and is pleasant for the day I am driving it.

For the M35, there is "S" instead of "L"

I’ve often wondered that.

I recently test drove the model 3 performance and walked away realizing the instant responsiveness of that drivetrain really was something.

Love the b58 i6 but battery tech is coming along nicely.

Is your ix1 fwd? Sounds like it’s not awd. Wish the US had the ix1 or ix2

Hello all,
In my modification (X1 23d), the ability to disable the system in all modes, except for Sport mode, has been removed. Although I can live with stoping engine on red light, my car shut down the engine when I drive with 80 km/h! Not less than 5mph as you complain, it actually shut down the engine on high speed road when I remove the foot from the gas approaching a slower vehicle and waiting for the right moment to change lanes to the left for overtaking.
At the moment when I need to accelerate quickly after changing lanes to complete the overtaking, the engine is off and has to start, as well as find the appropriate gear. This results in a delay of 2 seconds and creates clearly dangerous/risky situations on the road.
Does anyone ese experience such aggressive ASS?
The coasting mode is great, but somehow I would like to be in cotrol when this happens.

That sounds dangerous!

Your car is killing the engine at highway speeds, meanwhile air travel, China, and India are polluting the Earth unchecked.
