I had to endure Martz for a while. Without the talent he had in StL, he's nothing. His system sucks unless you've got good personnel all around. The Bears have some good players, but they need to adjust their game plan to account for their porous line. It's actually easier to build an offense around mediocre talent at the "skill" positions and a great line than it is to build an offense around great talent at the skill positions and a crappy line. In college, the reverse can be true, but absolutely not in the pros.

Frankly, I don't even know why the Bears bothered picking Martz up. His streak of coaching failure after the Rams is staggering.

I actually followed the offseason coordinator fiasco pretty closely...cliff notes are...

Need O and D coordinator
Lovie wants Martz
No one else wants Martz
Bears don't want to eat Lovie's contract
No available coordinators are desperate enough to sign with a lame duck regime
After a month and a half, Bears appoint Maranelli and sign Martz
Make it look like "they meant to do that"
Spend the same amount of money it would take to change coaching staff on free agents
O Line gets no upgrades
Jay Cutler concussion

just sayin.... Weis proved himself a joke as a head coach in college but he still is probably one of the best OC's of the last 10-20 yrs. Look at what he did in NE with Brady.

Yeah, I would have taken Weis over Martz without hesitation. I think I'm a little biased though, after watching exactly how bad Martz can be.

well thats the thing... Martz is either hot or cold, never really just warm. When he's on, he is really good but things have a tendency to go down the toilet on a regular basis with him too. I'd rather have Weis who has proven he can get games won in the final minutes, he did it with Brady for 3 rings, especially that 1st one when nobody knew who the hell Brady was, Bledsoe was the man back then.

Yea not knocking Weis' credentials, just that small fast receivers fit Martz's scheme better. Whether or not they're smart enough is another thing, but so far I'm surprised as I was assuming it was gonna be a disaster since the receiving core isn't exactly composed of average football intelligence... They got Manu Maleuna or whatever for a blocking TE and he's actually using Greg Olsen, who I think already has as many receptions as any other Martz TE ever. The quick drop and release type plays dismantled Dallas, and I feel as if he managed the O very well against GB even though Cutler wasn't having his best game...

Reports are he was actually concussed at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, but wasn't able to be examined thoroughly on the sideline... which actually explains some of the "WTF are you doing" moments and missing open receivers (Hester, Earl Bennett a few times...)

I agree but to be fair, Olsen is not a typical TE. He's a massive blocking slot receiver.
