Yeah definitely, although I was hoping for a 2018 X3 M with S55 haha.
Transfer my Bootmod3 Flash tune license over and 500whp/550wtq easy, guess i was just dreaming.

They used to but they found out it can cause unforeseen problems like the N63.

Sharing the same thoughts as everyone else, damn another 2 years until we start seeing X3Ms. I was planning to get rid of my M3 this year or next. Not sure what I'll do now.

Is the prevailing theory that the M8 will go that exotic? I have to admit that I haven't been paying much attention to the conversation around the car, but I was not thinking it would have that sort of "look".

I mean, BMW has the i8, which has that supercar sort of look - why not just improve that platform for performance? Everything at the supercar level is going hybrid anyway...

What? The M8 will be an S63 Coupe competitor, not a mid engined supercar.

That's what I don't understand. BMW has a platform there just ITCHING for a high performance version. It looks amazing, it's lightweight, and even in current form with bicycle tires it handles well. Imagine it with 520+hp (M version of the B48 2.0L I4 boosted to 350hp with 190hp electric motor from the upcoming i3s), real brakes, suspension by M, and a set of Pilot Sport 4S tires of appropriate width. Start it at $170k and they'd have a legit competitor to the 911 Turbo, NSX, R8, etc. It's the halo car they need but refuse to build, and they already have all the parts. But no, instead we get a 15-20hp LCI bump. That car is such a missed opportunity for BMW.

You said it better than me. That kind of car could compete with the best from the other luxury brands...too bad...

If by "competitor" you actually meant, "product with a large single-digit integer value in its model name" - you definitely nailed it. The two will be dead even in that respect.

The M8 isn't an R8 competitor. It's just the upcoming (and slightly bigger) M6.

BMW's approach makes sense when you consider the target market for the i brand; and that excess is contrary to environmentalism.

As clearly stated in the first post of this thread, the 2 Series and M2 LCI comes July of this year.

The M2 Competition (or whatever it will be called) might launch then too, but will probably be later.

pretty sure that wasn't ever a "thing". An M8 has been developed in the past... it wasn't produced of course.
I don't have much hope that the F93 GC would look good. IMO, the current 4er GC looks terrible and oddly proportioned.

Just shows how much attention I pay to stuff like that.
I've been sifting through the many posts, but I want to make sure I didn't miss anything. The only change to the M2 will be the LED head and tail lights and new iDrive? (Will the headlights be adaptive LEDs?) I've seen rumors about the instrument cluster and various interior cosmetics and electronics. Also any news on the price bump? Trying to decide whether to push a late June '17 build to an '18MY. Still believe the '18s will start production in July? If so, when do the '18 allocations first come out?

Sorry if I missed anything but this is one long thread. Thanks in advance!

LOL. I guarantee things will change/evolve in 2 years (2020). I could see an F97/F98 with close to 500hp. Will the current M3/4 be ending production for the "7" year refresh? Maybe the "delay" in the F97 was due to the surprise from Alfa's Giulia Quadilafario and the upcoming Stelvio Quadilafario with 500+hp. Like the X5M, I would think BMW wants F97/F98 top of its class. There is so much competition in this class, they can't (better NOT) mess this up. X3 M40i for me and maybe I steal your mods for @2 years until the X3M is released.

But waiting 1-2 years while the Stelvio, AMG GLC 63(S) and Macan Turbo PP or S are flying around kinda sucks. BMW starts strong and ends up playing chase.

I'd call that a long shot at best. There's really no incentive to change it up. The 2 Series and M2 LCI is this year and engines are expected to be unchanged (excluding the new CS). After that point, any updates to product will be minor and incremental.

Quote:
M4 CS=S58
That's not happening either. The engine is debuting in the X3M. It isn't ready yet.
Damn a 385 ish bhp B58 would have be enough to convince me to buy a M2. I wonder how much more they will charge for the M2 competition but still it seem like there is no way they can make the S55 sound good.

When we first learned of S55, it was projected to be at 400hp. When it finally came out, the number was noticeably higher.

Nah, the difference wasn't that big. When you leaked S55 data back in 2012 it was rated at 310kw, but the final number as now we know is 317kw

Do we know if this will be MY2018 only/very limited run? Or more like ZCP to continue on to F82 EOP.
