Question: Does Canon service discontinued lenses if you send it to them? I'm not sure if I remember reading a policy from them that they do not...if that's the case, where would you guys recommend lens servicing and cleaning?
Edit: Ok, so I found out that Canon doesn't repair old lenses anymore, but haven't found the answer to whether they still clean / calibrate them.

I understood that they would clean and calibrate an old lens, for a fee, so long as no parts are required.
I've also read of some repair shops that specialize in maintaining old lenses. So, if you need a part, then you should search for one of those.

they do clean/calibrate refurb lenses as far as I know. I made out like a bandit during their 15% off sales.

Ok, ok. None of those were on my hit list except the 5D II, but great loot you got there :P. Seems better than Christmas!
I just sent payment a few hours ago for a used 50 1.4 for my girlfriend. Soo much more bang-for-the-buck than the 1.2, especially with a good deal of the 1.2s having back focusing issues. Don't know if it's been resolved yet or not. Nuts, just called Canon's service center in Irvine and they won't even touch it. The rep said it's because just in case it breaks during the cleaning, then they would have to get parts for it and they won't do that. Oh well.

I've only put the 50mm f/1.4 on the 5D2 so far... and I love it. I literally only used the 50mm f/1.8 (which I sold) on my 20D like a dozen times max over the past 6 years.
Since I've gotten the 5D2 day-before-yesterday, I've already used it more!

So far so good. I adjusted it, and I can't wait to test it out over the next couple days.

haha, right... I think I'm pretty well covered overall now. I would make an exception for the 85mm f/1.2L though (if I win the lottery)

And if you win the lottery, you're going to have to build a separate room in the house just to store one of every Canon lens made. Which reminds me, I saw on craigslist earlier today someone selling a Canon 600mm and the 800mm. Insane. Those are definitely lottery-only items.

The 600 was 6-7k can't exactly remember but the 800 was 13k. Maybe half a year ago there was another 800mm on craigslist and he was only asking 9.5-10k. Ok, not just "only 9.5-10k," just relatively speaking in comparison :P. I wanted to sell my soul and all my camera gear just to say I had it, but alas, my soul was sold a long time ago for a pretzel.

I think I'm about to stop renting and get a set of 24, 35, 50, 100 and 135. some months I spend $900 in rentals alone.
I will keep renting the bodies though, at least until the mark V or mark III. and ditto on the 85.

Anyone ever go slummin' and use one of these Rokinons? They're cheap enough and I've seen some hyper-sharp shots on POTN. Looks like it might be fun to play with.

A Series I 800mm below 10k would be an excellent value; however, I'd only suggest it to someone that shoots lots and lots of birds. If I move up to the Series II, you guys will have first shot at my Series I 500mm. Dave
