Good point. The G20 would be more profitable than the F52, and get more coverage in the press. Maybe after a year of the G20 on the market, when people start realizing that even basic G20 models are $45K+ USD, BMW can swoop in with the F52 and say "hey look what you can get for <$40K". That's what I do, at least.

I still don't think we'll see a 2er Gran Coupe on the nex-gen Gxx platform. Volumes would be infinitesimally small. No matter how much guys on this board would drool over them.

In Europe (or at least in Norway) it would sell like hot cakes imo.
The AT, GT and now the X1, it's pretty much like a sub brand, like the i.
Not an enthusiast first choice, but the models itself, theyr pretty damn good imo.
Just as an example, the 225d AT will cost you about 500k in Norway, the hybrid though (225Xe), will cut of almost 150k from that price, that will also give you AWD and some extra features.

Not bad. I cannot wait for xDrive is the form of 4 electric motors.

^^^ This! And it would be wasteful for BMW to spend any more $$ developing cars for the F2x platform. Next-gen is around the corner!

Also, I suspect we will see a G20 test mule any day now.

There are other precedents.. like when BMW wasn't gonna make an M car out of their Z cars..

I'll be the first to let you know if/when it happens again.

I'm all in for an M2 CSL or M2 gran Coupe.. whichever comes first..

Absolutely incorrect... BMW has sold too many E36 sedans and E46 sedans for this to be true. if you don't think there is a market of owners DYING for a car that actually is the size of what a 3 series used to be... .

unlike your F80 5 series..

Audi has it figured out - S3

Yeah, but that was 10-20 years ago! Times have changed. There won't be any more extreme performance sedans that are RWD, smaller than a current-gen 3 series.

Yes.. but BMW has not embraced the 2 series model like the other companies. First off.. coupe only and no sedan...

Also.. production volume is incredibly limited.. pretty sure that Mercedes is just as happy to sell buyers a CLA as they are a C class.. unlike BMW where they will show you a 1 or 2 series in the US and then step you to a 3/4 series because it has better options, colors etc..

This FWD Civic-wannabe with a BMW badge does nothing but tell people that BMW is just like any other carmaker....ordinary and unwilling to take risks.

You can fool the CLA and A3 crowd with this....quite easily....but BMW is just becoming more and more ordinary by the day......there isn't a single car in the BMW lineup that screams "BMW!!" anymore...just a bunch of marketing exercises with fat people in suits taking notes.

You do realise that BMW as well as Mercedes-Benz and Audi in Europe are just car companies, albeit Premium but we offer basic specification or in America's case economy specification on the best selling BMWs. I think the Compact Sedan is very much about taking risks its a car that travels furtherest from its initial BMW comfort zone specifically for BMWs no 1 market for sales China.
It has a definite market target and demographic, its youthful, yet sporty and fits in well with the other BMW sedans in the portfolio.

Remember scott when you said a couple of years ago that there will be no FWD 2 series? (Its a rhetorical question, don't bother answering). Anyway, will there be a RWD 2 series next gen? If yes, how low our chances in having a RWD 2 series after that? I personally think 2 to 3%.

Neither one of those was a surprise to those paying attention. A RWD 2GC would be. I'll tell you what - if a RWD F8x M2 GC comes to market, and you purchase/lease one, I've got your first payment covered. I am confident my money is safe though.

There is definitely a market for a small BMW sedan. Absolutely no doubt about that.

But BMW has long ago determined that the size of the market that will only buy this car if it is RWD is smaller than the size of the market that does not care which wheels drive the car. And since its cheaper to build it on their UKL platform, shared with many models across the BMW and Mini brands, that's the strategy that the board has approved.
