Just yesterday I ran into a couple of trucks full of brand new proudly Mexican built 330i's on the highway between Querétaro and Mexico City.

I would never buy a BMW made in Mexico.
Nor would I trust a German with my quesadilla!

You will be able to tell from the VIN where it is made.

I was talking about European Delivery, not someone buying from a dealer lot. It should be common sense to you that BMW isn't going to offer European Delivery on a Mexican-built car.

Audi assembles its Q5s for the US market in Mexico though the engine comes from Germany. So there are a lot of Mexican assembled premium German brand vehicles in the US already.

All Q5's globally are assembled in Mexico since 2018. Not just North American cars.

When you see this plant you can't help by being impressed by the organization and quality control of the German car industry. It is impressive to see how every aspect of the organization is thought out, documented, inspected and put together. It's very impressive and part of what you are buying into when you own a BMW.

I suppose a plan of this magnitude has been going on for years already, and has not been impacted by the recent tariff drama.

But I wonder if the steel tariffs uncertainty would play a role in the future for implantation in the US. Risk averse companies may think twice before locating a plant in a geographical zone where raw material prices and supply chain parts may change prices wildly and unpredictably. This kind of political unstability is not good for the business environment in the US.

Also, NAFTA is still the law of the land, since congress has not ratified its replacement (https://www.vox.com/2019/5/31/186471...o-canada-usmca). ALso consider that said replacement is not that different from NAFTA itself and would not change much of anything.

And I like that countries have their "thing."
That's why they are countries.
I suppose in your mind that should disappear and we should live in a global world without borders, a sense of national pride, or identity, where corporations rule the way and the cheapest labor market wins production of any kind. In that scenario kiss your factory good bye as it just moved to Asia.
If that happens, I'll gladly switch to a Japanese brand made in, you guessed it, Japan!
I also drive an hour to NYC to get traditional Japanese sushi made by, you guessed it, Japanese sushi chefs.
If I crave Mexican food, nothing beats the local neighborhood joint nor will I experiment anywhere else.
Authenticity rules the day.

Yes I do. In my case the joint is owned by wonderful Mexican folks who barely speak English and I love the food and vibe.
I've also been to Mexico plenty of times and would like to see it retain its attractiveness and uniqueness long after the BMW bean counters move their exploitation to another neighbouring country.
You are a convenient stop on the way to the corporate greed train destination...wherever it leads.

BMWAG has had a relationship with the Mexican Govt going back to around 1994.

Something like 50 percent of a vehicle's content had to be Mexican sourced.

That content rule is long gone and BMW never met it. Back in 94 BMW entered the Mexican market initially building CKDs in partnership with a mexican entrepreneur (not the government).

Soon after BMW AG bought out the whole operation and that plant became for armouring cars both for local and export consumption.
