The DCT in the lower models is a cost-cutting measure, not some performance thing.

In the outgoing model, the lower-powered engines had a DCT as well, while the higher ones had a torque converter (not the ZF8 though).

It's either because everybody in here (and I guess, in the US in general) thinks any range below 400 miles is a joke - or it is because they know they can't manufacture enough of them anyway right now so need to chop up the markets.

Too bad the iX1 isn't coming to the US. I would buy 2 of them (one for the wife to replace her daily driver X3, the other for the teenage son getting his license).

I read the iX1 had estimated range of 270 miles in EU/China which translates to real world range of roughly 220-250 in US. About the same as some of the other offerings in the same price range ($40k-$50k).

Really like the exterior design on this...finally a decent design. But, can't stand the new BMW interiors with "iPad" and touch everything. I'm sure this will still sell well, though.

This seems pretty likely. If I look at the ID8 enough, it definitely follows an arc that would allow the average driver to touch the furthest corner. When you get into larger vehicles (5+), you lose 'touch' real-estate because it's too much of a stretch. Good catch.

Gotta love how 50% of these commenters are angry about the sub-compact X1 being.. sub-compact. Don't see people on a 3 series forum complaining that they don't get 5 series legroom. Get an X3

ix1 has a 60-70kwh battery, with a 11kwh level 2 charger, that would take maybe 6 hours to do a full charge, so there's plenty of time in the day to charge 2 if necessary but unlikely both would be run down to 0% and needing full charge at the same time.

Not really calling having a charger per vehicle a "need" but sharing a charger potentially adds a LOT more inconvenience.

Let's use your assumption that 6 hours will get each EV fully charged. Let's also assume you're home from work and on the charger by 6:00 PM (a HUGE assumption); that means that car is charged at midnight. You're going to be shuffling around cars at midnight to ensure both vehicles are ready by 6:00 AM? Not me. I'd demand a charger per vehicle so I could simply plug in whenever I get home and not deal with the vehicle until I'm ready to drive the next day.

I guess that depends on your situation and if you run the battery down to 0 everyday.

I'm looking at purchasing 2 smallish EV because 1) my wife commutes 6 miles each way to work daily, so about 60 miles a week. So on a ev with say 200 mile range, she could charge once every 2-3 weeks.
2) I'm looking to get a second one for my son who is getting his license soon, he would use it to get to school activities, work etc, all very short drives that are perfect fit for ev. Again he would likely need to only charge once every 2-3 weeks. Or they can plug in for a 1-2 hour top off once a week.

So for my use case, two small EV's with one at home L2 charger works fine. We would get rid of the X3 but keep the X7 for weekend family trips.

As a die hard bmw fan, it's just a sigh of relief, after the new 4er front, eliminating the classic holfmeister kink, getting rid of the angel eyes, the ugly ix and new 7er exterior design, it's nice to know that bmw can still make nice looking cars.

If you think a CR-V is comparable to an X1, then definitely get the CR-V. My mom has a '19 CR-V Touring, and there's not a chance it's anywhere as nice as the U11 X1. Starting with the obviously fake wood trim staring you in the face, and Honda's atrocious user interface. No doubt the new CR-V will be an improvement, but it's also getting bigger, which would make it even less like an X1.

Ok. It probably doesn't matter anyway; good luck trying to get those 2 cars "comparably equipped" anyway, given what Honda doesn't offer and what BMW has standard. It's not like comparing a Honda vs it's Acura "equivalent"
