Bit of a tabloid-fuelled misconception there. China is probably doing more to decarbonise than any other G7 nation.

I would be interested in you producing something that can back up that statement.

Why should only one statement be "backed up"? Why doesn't the original statement he responded to also need back up?

China is the world's largest producer of renewable energy, has nearly half of the world's operating wind and solar capacity, is constructing almost two-thirds of the world's large-scale wind and solar power, accounts for one-third of the world's clean energy investments, and added more nuclear power over the past few years than any country.

Will that do?

They are really going for it, big time. Clean-energy sectors currently account for 40% of China's GDP expansion.

Yes, they burn coal, but that was due to peak in 2024.

Good for them. I guess they have finally realized they have been one of the worlds biggest polluters.

Is this the original statement you are referring to?

"I can assure you that the use of ASS will have no effect on the planet."

They realised some years ago. The things I outlined didn’t happen overnight.

If you flick the gear lever to L or S and return to D the ASS stars off.

And how was my casual characterization of China's pollution inaccurate?

You didn't have a problem with me mentioning India or general air travel? Why the soft spot for China? You're some sort of advocate?

For real. Can you guys just stop arguing and get back to discussing how much most of us dislike auto stop/start?

No, because India and general air travel, although both have improved, don’t have the same green credentials as China.

I’m certainly not an advocate - there are many many things wrong with China, especially human rights and the treatment of the Uyghur population. I just balk at lazy stereotyping.

Interesting link that you shared, though. I didn’t realise that the air quality was so low in the Gulf states.

In my wife's new X1, she just pulls down the notification shade and taps the Auto Stop/Start Button. Pretty simple. No fuss.

My wife does the same… mentioned this somewhere else but my preferred method is the 3 line button under my modes, then tap ASS icon (and tap the 3 line button again to dismiss)

It’s no fewer steps but less finger prints

I envy you that you even have the option to turn it off. I don't have that luxury.
Also, I have doubts about how good an idea it is to activate this system before the engine has warmed up. And now if I don't want it to turn off at traffic lights while it's cold, I have to switch to L mode. Which means driving at high revs on a cold engine.
