Happens in Nashville too. We live down the street from a restaurant, and there's always Ubers and private vehicles just stopping in the middle of the road to let out/pick up people. They just stop and put on their blinkers, and you know they didn't even look in their mirrors first because the car right behind them has to slam on brakes and then lay on their horns. And the same when they start moving again. Watched a near-accident when the car started moving as the car behind it was partially going around it. Crazy.

Handicapped parking, but your legs work fine: blinkers
Red/hydrant : blinkers
No parking in driveway: blinkers
No parking is cross walk : blinkers

Too freaking lazy to steer to the curb so you passenger doesn't have to walk 3 more steps to get in car: middle of the road, block BOTH lanes, blinkers

I hope that you know that there are people who qualify for handicapped parking permits without any VISIBLE sign of a disability. Ask me why I have one, but don't use it 98% of the time.....

Worked with a guy like that. No visible disability, but his knees were bone-on-bone and walking was very painful for him. He also rarely used handicapped placard.

Yeah that's a tough one.

I have a buddy who is in a wheelchair. He is in his 30s, and whenever he parks in one of those spots since it is easier for him to get out of his car, there is some overweight person complaining that he has the spot... of course until they see him get in his chair.

There are certainly people who don't appear to have a disability that use the spots, like your situation and others with actual physical issues... but then you have the people that just can't walk far because they are 400+ lbs.

My mother looks fine at first glance but is absolutely RIDDLED with arthritis and can barely walk. She doesn't use a chair though so people complain she has the sticker but she literally cannot walk more than 20 ft at a time (she used a stick).

LOL - I used to date a PA and she was asked for Handi stickers MULTIPLE times a week by youngish people who were just super overweight. Both her parents were seriously handicapped, so she had an axe to grind. She would set them up and read the rules to them and one was "can you walk 30 feet unassisted?" and they would always answer no and she would then look up and say "well it is exactly 53 feet from the waiting room to this room - who helped you get here?"

Denied.

Obviously there were many that DID need them and she was happy to help, but the lazy didn't get far with her. Same with the drug seekers that memorized all the things they need to say to get pain meds after hours. LOL

My dad's had both of his knees replaced. He asked his surgeon (mostly out of curiosity) if he should park in the handicapped slot since they were usually close to the door since he'd just had surgery. The doc's answer was "Hell no-- I WANT you to walk as far as possible! Park as far away in the lot as you can".

It must have made an impression because my dad worked his tail off in "Knee Rehab School" and was a "distinguished grad". He's in his early 80's now and still walks several miles every day.

His buddy had the same knee surgery but blew off the rehab. He's now using a cane, thinking about a walker and definitely parks in the handicapped spots now!

R.
