Back in the 80's, Germany had beer vending machines where you could buy a whole case of bottled beer. It came down the roller ramp in a reusable (and returnable) plastic crate, like the ones folks use to store LPs.

A Himalayan Calendar. The outer ring as 12 balls, each corresponding to a month. The next two rings have a tens and ones digit. The tens has three balls for up to the 31st, and the next has nine balls, for 0 to 9. And then four rings for the year, up to 9999.

I really don't know, but recently learned the word "WC" is their term for public restrooms, standing for "Water Closet."

Personally, I would call them highway robbery for selling a baked potato with chili and cheese for over $13.50 USD.....

Before France abolished capital punishment in 1981, executions were still carried out by guillotine, as they had been since the French Revolution.

The last beheading took place in 1977 just a few years before the abolishment of the death penalty in France. Historical trivia here:

I was based in Germany from early ‘68 to early ‘69. One day when we were
convoying to an alert area we came across an overturned beer truck. Suds everywhere. It was enough to bring tears to our eyes, but it did smell good.
