its only cuz we always over submit the 1st week and then pretty much everyone who's gonna enter has entered so the 2nd (and sometimes 3rd) are just dead.

we could, i would hate to cut it short and limit the amount of entries... i think we get 1 or 2 stragglers most of the time but then again, is 1 photo worth waiting 5-7 extra days for?

originally the 2 weeks was given so people could go out and SHOOT for the contest but I think we've all pretty much accepted the fact that nobody does that anymore. instead its just "hey do you have a photo that fits this theme?" and if you don't then you don't enter the contest.

Yeah, I agree. I don't see a huge problem with contest submissions for 1 week, and voting for 1 week. That way we can maybe squeeze in ~2 contests a month, rather than 1 contest a month (at best, since winners are sometimes lazy to post new ones and things drag along). Maybe give winners 2 days to post a new contest and if it doesn't happen by then, second place gets to post a contest, etc.

Another option would be to force people to take new photos? I don't necessarily like that idea, as I admit that I'm also one of those people who generally tends to "find a photo that fits the theme." But, that would make me more motivated to get off my lazy ass and shoot something new.

Regarding bball... I hope that we win, but I don't think we'll win so easily... for whatever reason, it seems that you guys have our number.

it's almost been a week since the last entry.

if we made them all 3-5 days shorter, we could get more contests in per year, and there would be less waiting

as for the going out and shooting, I'm all for that part, however, it's about 3-5 degrees farenhight outside right now.... I'm not going out in that just for a new shot for the contest.

I carry my camera with my quite often, but that's for just in the off chance i come across something cool, but to go out of my way to organize a shoot in this weather, I can't even hold the camera properly with my gloves on an you're going to get a lot of camera shake because i'll be shivering so badly

in spring/summer/fall, it's a different story....

and I totally agree. my dash said -4 this morning so I don't want to be outside for any longer than I have to be. However the easy alternative is shooting indoors and making sure the theme of the contests allows that to be possible for the winter month contests (sunsets or beaches themes would be kinda hard).

The bottom line is people will take the easy road to this stuff 99/100 times unless they are just big fans of shooting new stuff all the time.

I hope to be in florida in about 2 weeks..... so that could be an opportunity for me to catch up on some picture taking, especially if i get my new 1er by then..... i doubt it though... insurance lost my check. so they are looking right now, i'm just hoping they cancel it and just write/send me a new one. And soon!!!

We don't have much of a team this year even though we're ranked top 15. we have 2 games with you guys, 1 home, 1 away. I can promise you a home victory in your favor but with that being said, a win at the Kohl Center is hard to come by for most teams, though if someone was to get one in our house my money would be on you guys.

its just been pasted from contest to contest in the 1st post. the overalls stay the same but if you tweak anything like allowing major post processing or something specific like must be shot on a tripod... its just included in there.

or, we can stagger 2 contests at the same time, start one, leave it running, then start the other a week or 2 later that way it will keep things fresh, but keep the other one open for later submissions.

we did this on another forum before, it gets messy plus then you have nobody to create the next theme cuz you wouldn't know who won yet.

I'd say if you need to keep it strictly to a week or 2 week round, either do 6 day submission 1 day vote (like M-Sat submit and Sunday votes) or 7 day submission 7 day vote.

if we don't care that they're not ending the same day every week per contest then just do a 7 day submission and 3 day vote and we will just keep track of DATES rather than DAYS.

the trick if you do the 7 day contests is you need to keep the new themes consistently coming in, no more waiting for a new contest for 10 days while the winner has his thumb up his ass deciding.

what about 10 days, that way you have 2 weekends for people who miss because of work or whatever and get on only over weekends.

either way, I don't think the 6 day and 1 day being sunday would work because of the whole weekend situation.
