Me too.

It's not the weather, per se.

It's the fact that my utility bills have tripled.

All the signs on 40 and 85 for winter weather advisory. Should be very interesting to say the least.

Wally world's parking lot looked pretty full from everyone supplying up for the two day apocalypse.

That's the part that is really starting to get old. Mine haven't gone up quite that bad, but they are certainly higher than I would like them to be/have been past winters. The bitterly cold for 2 or 3 days followed by a day or 2 of snow on a constant cycle is really boring.

I'm regretting paying for heat in some of my apartment complexes now too, since those bills are insane. We actually had to post that people couldn't have the heat above 75 anymore given that most people were leaving their heat around 80 100% of the time and then opening windows in their bedrooms to sleep.

Yeah, it seems some of the back roads I take to Roxboro get hit the worst, taking the main roads and highways really wasn't that bad during the last winter advisory..., although I was one of the few people on the road at all.

Seems people either go 20 mph under the speed limit, or are still going 20mph over the speed limit when it snows out here.

When I was in college there were only two thermostats on each floor of the residence halls and they would be in someone's room, each serving about 6 rooms. One semester the person with the t-stat was doing that 80* open window thing and everyone else was roasting. It was horrible.

What's killing my bills is that a couple of days here will be 20-30 and the next two will be 80. My gas bill is way up for the season but my electric hasn't really gone down much.

Everybody has control of their own heating/cooling, but we pay for heat in 2 of our buildings (mostly because we inherited that from the previous owner). I'm glad that we make people pay for their own cooling because I'm sure they would do the same thing all summer otherwise. I have seen some other buildings/complexes that have things set up like that but for those at least they would lock the temp with them and let people get space heaters so they didn't have to pay an insane amount for it.

Having these hugely fluctuating temps has been hard, granted the temps around here go from 20s and snow, to single digits/below freezing. Either way, I am very happy to be going to Hawaii for 2 weeks of golf starting Sunday.

Here at the uni I've seen dorm windows wide open in the dead of winter and heat waves pouring out of them. I don't know if the students have any control over heat or not. Such a waste, though. Our house is at 65 at night or if we're at work and 70 when we're up and around. Even then, our electric bills have been huge. Our gas bill is still pretty low, though.

Next week we're supposed to be getting back to normal temps for this time of year (upper 30's to low 40's). It'll seem like springtime.

That constant cycle is getting old indeed. The arctic blasts following the snowstorms have wreaked havoc on our roads. Roads around town that were paved in the fall look like they've aged several years. Older roads are riddled with wheel-shattering, tire-popping potholes.

Regarding the section I marked in bold, it's sad that you even have to deal with something like that because of the stupidity of others.

The same thing has happened to the roads around the 2 cities I am generally in. Between the fixes for water main breaks and that, it's starting to feel like I'm driving down a old gravel road instead of a nicely paved street. It will be interesting to see what gets done about it in the spring/summer though, if anything.

It doesn't really surprise me that we have to deal with it, people see it as free and think that because they don't have to pay for it, they get to do whatever the hell they want. They see it's supposed to be below zero for a few days, may as well crank that free heat. There are many times I wish I wouldn't have gone in to those buildings for reasons similar to this.

Question which is a little off-topic: do you own only apartment-type buildings or do you have individual houses as well? I am thinking of purchasing a property which is one building containing four apartments, 2 per floor. Problem is that my GF, who manages rental property, says that apartments are way worse to deal with than rental houses because the people tend to be more transient and there are more complaints for each issue with the building. I get that enough with the existing properties which are all houses at about 1000-1400 sqft. If you have both, are apts really that much worse?

My favorite is when people try to skate around the rent for a month because a twig fell on the roof or something. And of course there's the infamous "your house has asbestos in it I've just decided, so you need to lower the rent."

Here is a pic my friend took of one of his neighbors here in NC... Maybe this is why people down here are labeled as such morons when it comes to winter storms...
