Yes to your understanding of a suppressor. No, you're idea of a make shift suppressor won't reduce much sound and could adversely affect ballistics. You can make your own with a set of spacers and washers inserted into a main tube. It is legal to make your own here, but you still have to register it and get a NFA tax stamp for it. It is $200 but it's like an 8 month wait or something ridiculously longer. (to buy or make one) There is some hearing protection act going through legislation that could take suppressors off of the NFA list. My friends are gonna be pissed when you can just go buy a suppressor at walmart when that passes. Easiest way to make your own is to use an oil filter.

I have to say the oil filter is pretty cool. Ghetto but certainly works at "protecting your hearing".
I was an idiot one time at the range - brought my neighbour who hadn't shot before, set everything up, nobody else is there. So I'm thinking about my mental checklist, have eyes on, etc, good to go I thought. But I was missing ear protection (and my rifle has a muzzle brake so it sounds even louder to the shooter). Well, I send one down range...the two of us were in a little pain for the next few minutes from the sound. Without hearing protection - that thing is loud! Not even a big gun, just a .308. |

Hopefully this will actually pass. The bill is written so that anyone who purchased a tax stamp as far back as 2015 will be "reimbursed" in some way. I'm betting if this passes, suppressors will be really hard to find for the first few months while suppliers try to fill the demand.

Last Friday at the range with a friend shooting .308 suppressed and the bullet hitting the back stop was louder than the bullet leaving the muzzle. LoL

Probably the dumbest thing anyone could do. I figured all I had to do was weld my initials on my project real quick and it wouldn't be a big deal..., yeah it ended up being a huge deal.

I picked up my CZ, California laws/rules are so dumb (not that this is news).
To pick it up, after 10 days, I brought my Drivers License, Carry Permit (at least I don't have to have 'safety card' in addition), and another piece of address verification (current car reg.) Then I had to demonstrate that I could safely load, unload, and show clear. If this was a first firearm purchase, some of this could make sense, not when you have a CCW, and multiple firearm purchases under your belt. |

I don't think i can bring myself to buy another 1911. If anything i might sell my nighthawk and get another one that isn't a bull barrel.
But i do have some gun money burning a hole in my pocket. What should i get? Leaning towards pistol. Maybe rifle but nothing larger than a 5.56. The same LGS had a KAC SR-25 in stock... I'm pretty sure i'd get that before another 1911. What caught my eyes this morning were..... Ruger take down .22, ZEV glock G19, WWII government 1911 ($550), IMI X95, Geissele trigger for my 9mm Tavor, SIG 226 Navy.

ZEV G19, smh, I have 'hot rodded' a glock 34 with Lonewolf parts, and a comp trigger, the trigger is nice, but its still a Glock (for good and bad), I also shot a full custom G19 at an event I went to, it was also still a Glock, did nothing for me. I put a Timney in my Tavor, (the Geissele wasn't available, but I like Timney anyway) makes a big difference, because of the linkage involved its still not as crisp as a custom trigger in an AR, but so much better then stock. I have a 226 Navy, I prefer the CZ-SP01 so much over the 226, I have brought both to the range for 3 new/getting back into shooters, they all have preferred the CZ, one of them hunted one down and bought it within a week (which is NOT easy to do in CA). The only down side argument that I can make about the CZ is if you are clearing a malfunction under stress there is less slide to get a hold of. If you are even considering Ed Brown money, check out the CZ Tactical Sport, for a range toy. Its so good it like cheating, very light comp. trigger, cool gun! |

I don't shoot CZ pistols very well. Same for SIG pistols really. I just want to like the 226 Navy.
As unexciting as they are, i shoot glocks very well. If i can find the right deal, i'll likely get the 10-22 and the trigger pack for the Tavor. Last time i put several hundred down range with the Tavor my damn forearm was sore the next day from pulling that 12 pound trigger! lol Hopefully that will put the flames out for a while. I really don't need any more guns... even though the correct number of guns to own is N +1, with N representing the current number of guns you own.
