My first wife's stepdad was a "Nazi". Conscripted into the German Army in 1945 at age 14. He thought it was great; he got new clothes, his own shoes, and something to eat besides potatoes. They were grabbing up kids and old men because the rest of the men were already serving or dead. He had a rifle but never any ammunition. Never saw action.

Something startling happened to me when I turned age 44:
I was drafted into the US Army at age 20 and separated from the Army at age 22. I suddenly realized that if I was 1 day old the day after I got out, I could've done the whole deal again - Grade school; Junior High; High School; 2 years of college AND the whole Army thing again. When I hit age 66, three times over! That was 7 years ago. LOL!

You know you're old when 2 of your grandparents were born in the 1800s.

If you can remember when Tootsie Roll Pops cost 2¢ and a two-pack of Twinkies cost 12¢.

When you remember eating this as a kid, and remember how horrible it was.

I LOVED that stuff. And that Jello product that was similar, where you ended up with 3 different layers. And Carnation Instant Breakfast. The '60s and '70s in America had the best gimmicky garbage foods.

As a kid, I remember going to the candy counter at the five & dime and getting these licorice candies. I can't say what they were called because it would be totally political incorrect today.

My buddy and I would pick up soda bottles along the road, take them to the local store. We'd get $0.02 for each bottle, which was a fortune because the candy was $0.01 per piece. People were so nice in those days, throwing those bottles out of their car windows.
