I was thinking of putting together a small selection of photos to sell up there. Most people don't charge much but I am hooked up with a good printer here in Chicago that uses premium Hahnemuehle papers so I thought I could try to get like $70 a print and it'll only cost me about $15 plus shipping. Put some change in my pocket hopefully.

I have two questions for you guys:
1. Where did you go to get your equipment insured? How much is your premium/coverage? 2. Do you do anything special for international travel? I'm always afraid that customs will confiscate my equipment if they think I'm trying to sell it there. Should I be worried?

I've only been to the Caribbean, Canada and the UK with my photo equipment, but no hassles. I imagine that your experience can vary a lot by country. Why would they think you're going to sell it? I'd guess that'd only be a worry for someone traveling repeatedly to the same country. Dave

In regards to international travel... there's a small chance of having problems, but if it happens, you'll be SOL. From what little reading I've done on this matter, apparently you have to fill out this Form 4457 for each piece of equipment you own.... what a pain in the ass. I think the main issue is that customs might believe you purchased this equipment during the trip and haven't paid any custom fees when you bring it with you.

duh, thats what I'm here for.
Actually I need to look into insurance soon too so glad u brought it up. I think there is a way to be covered under homeowners/renters insurance but I doubt that would cover any traveling. |

I think I can do it under ASCAP but I don't know if it would just be my musical stuff or not.

Dang, didn't even think about all this insurance and customs issues when I went traveling in Europe for 3 months with a bunch of my gear. Luckily for me, no hassles at all. Except I forgot to pack my gorillapod into my check-in and they confiscated that when I was leaving France to come home Couldn't even argue for it since they were speaking French only

That sucks man. I'm going to India for 2.5 weeks, so I feel like I need to get this crap sorted out before I leave. That way I'll have a peace of mind while I'm there.

Don't know about Cleveland, but there ain't many elephants or Brahma bulls walking around downtown Indy. Panhandlers by the truckload, but no bulls.

I wish the diopter button was bigger. Sometimes I shoot with my glasses on and sometimes not. It's a pain trying to adjust the diopter with such a small dial.

Rats, I was unprepared. We live a few miles from a small county airfield. We have small planes and the occasional business jet flying over all the time, but today I heard a really large jet flying by. I looked out the window to see a B-2 bomber soaring by. There's an airshow today (which I knew about but had forgotten) and the fly-by must have been part of that. I'm sure it didn't take off from that small field and I could hear it fading into the distance for a long time after the fly-by, so it must have come down from the former USAF base in Rantoul north of here or maybe even further away than that. I would have loved to grab a shot of it cruising by.

A good occasion for Daves 500.
Fleet week in SF is coming up and I'll be there. No F22s though, I will have to travel for that.

That was the other thing. I had just finished shooting pics of my cat with the 85mm f1.8, which would have been useless even if I had had time to run outside with the camera. I think when I finally get a 7D, I'll keep the T1i for a second body so I can have one rig set up for wide and one for distance.
