Do you guys know if they allow DSLRs and zoom lenses into Golden Gate Fields racetrack?
I was thinking about going to tomorrow's race just for fun, and since it's dollar Sundays

I'm happy with my 70-200mm f/4L IS used with the 1.4x TC, but the 70-300mm would be an alternative. Dave

I had a question for you guys. About 3 weeks ago I submitted two photos to a photo contest here in Cleveland. I found out this weekend that one of my photos made it in the top 20 out of all their hundreds of submissions.
This means that they will professionally print (glossy 17x22") and mount my photo in a gallery for a whole month. At the end of the show, I can take that print home, or I can offer it for sale while its on display. What do you think I should do? Also, if I sell it, how much do I sell it for (they are asking me to give them a price to publicly list)? I'm an amateur when it comes to these things. Thanks!

however find out about the glossy thing. glossy NEVER looks good in a gallery (lighting creates hot spots on the print when viewing). you need to print on a high quality matte such as a Hanhimuehle or Epson fine art paper. It'll probably cost you about $30-40 to print but worth it. If the photo is good, include the print cost and add $75-100 bucks on to it. It's going to be a big size so people wouldn't mind paying over $100 for a good photo on that kind of paper. |

I won't be doing the printing. I think they are outsourcing that out to some place. So, I won't even have to pay for the prints themselves. So, how much do you think I should ask for, if someone is interested in purchasing it? $100?

I really don't see why they'd print glossy for a gallery show... |

I have no idea. Maybe they'll change to matte once they see the error in their ways.

Thanks Tim. But, I honestly cannot believe this photo won:
and this crappy one took 2nd place: It really makes you wonder about the "professional judges"

First image isn't even straight. And there's no reason for the tilt it has. Obviously the judges are wowed by HDR tricks.

yeah Mark. That's what gets me. It seemed more like an HDR contest than anything else. Not to mention this was a contest where you had to take a photo of a person, place, or thing in downtown Cleveland, and technically that first shot isn't even in downtown Cleveland. Oh well.

Sorry, I don't. That's what was posted by the photographer, so I'm sure he/she has the originals.
