Very nice review. Having a Cayman myself I know exactly what you're talking about.
Nothing handles better than a mid-engine car in my opinion though.

I've never been a Porsche guy but it has been calling my name lately. There was a 911 4 GTS that was calling my name (guards red... sweet). Depending on what the ZCP option looks like, my name car might have a P badge.
Nice comments on the two cars. I personally liked the rawness of the C7 and found it endearing but completely know what you mean. I also think the Z51 C7 would give you a very different experience... my Z51 handled noticeably better than my M4... no dive, flat through corners, very composed. My track experience with it was very favourable and it was easily out running 997 911S's and neck and neck with 991 911S's. Z51 is an absolute MUST for anyone who values handling and precision.

Am I reading this right. You got out of the C7 after 3 weeks and before you even passed the break in period?? What have you moved on to?

Next move from a 2016 Cayman S, used italian exotic?
So driving along yesterday I happened across the same white Lamborghini twice. I don't even know what model it was, except that it wasn't a Gallardo or a huracan. It was larger than either.
But whatever it was, it was epic. Such sound and drama. I couldn't even HEAR my OWN flat six driving behind it. It evoked such emotion in me that I think I want one. I've complained about having nothing to aspire to from the 981, that I've reached the pinnacle of my auto life. But I don't think I have. Driving behind and beside that thing stirred my soul. I feel that as a car nut I need to at least experience an italian supercar for a little time in my life. I want a MANUAL. I am not willing to give up that aspect of the driving experience. I can only really spend about $120 k cdn max. This limits me to used gallardos or 360's or 430's (if I could ever find the elusive 430 manual). Anyone made a similar move? I've watched Doug De muro's on point comparo. I LOVE my 981CS. It offers so much joy in driving. I do wonder if a used Italian exotic will in fact offer more driving joy. visibility will be worse, parking a hassle, I doubt it will actually be as sharp and engaging as a modern 981S. But I wonder if the drama and emotion of the Italian exotic will outweigh the loss of driving joy from the 981. Each drive will be more of an event, stir my soul more? I am hoping to plug into the great group here (lots of true car people and good perspectives) and see if anyone has made a similar move and how that went for you? Obviously this is a significant financial change for me. I live in a condo and would have to have 2 cars (a manual Nissan micra comes to mind at my "other" car), pay for additional parking and insurance. But cars are my passion and so if making such a move would best feed my passion, then maybe it's worth it.... |

Here is some food for your soul... bon appetit!
We Visit the Lamborghini Museum http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=766391 Seriously though... I still remember the guide at Lambo saying... everyone can afford a Lambo... but not everyone can afford to keep/maintain one!! He said by the third service... when its no long $1K for an oil change, but rather maybe $10K or $20K for a service, brakes, tires and say a clutch... that most people bail. I think its also why you don't see high mileage "exotics" while you DO see high mileage Porsche's. Dackel

Definitely get the Gallardo. Will be much better then a older Ferrari and a whole lot cheaper to maintain because it shares a lot of parts with a Audi R8
Much better looking too at least imo. You can pick up a nice 04-07 for 95-110k and buy a LP560 conversion kit for another 15k ish including installation. I am a frequent visitor to the Lamborghini forums and they seem to be pretty reliable as well |

Novelty of a supercar dies in about 2 to 10 days for me. Shortest being an r8 v10 and longest being a 458, lp560 being in the middle.
If you're going for a used exotic with a $120k budget, I'd highly recommend driving one first preferably for a couple days especially if you want to dd it. For $120k max, I'd keep that money or get into a used gtr with change or try to get a gt4. The only thing exotic about an $120k exotic car is the maintenance bill. |

I'd go backwards. A well restored classic will give you a much different but rewarding experience for a longer period.
Although out of your price range, a Singer 911 or something closer to budget, a MG LE50. Of course you can do it even cheaper with your own restoration of these cars or pick up a 2002tii. |

Humm, they are super expensive to maintain, generally have various quality issues, generally super uncomfortable to drive on regular road, and have poor tech given age. Also you can't really put any miles on them or they become pretty much worthless.
So I say no, no used Italian exotics. |

baege maybe you should jion one of those car clubs that rents out cars... like: Classic Car Club Manhattan
IF there isn't one in your area... you could always just fly in for a weekend or week of fun in some cool sports car. I think it makes sense for a lot of people. Especially for people in NYC who don't have a garage!

I think Dackle hit it on the head. I rented a 458 for three days and was able to put 400 miles on it. I see pacific coast highway in a new respect. It's a very strange feeling when a car scares the shit out of you. It's like your excited to come home for Christmas Eve, only to have your parents waiting for you with some random girl holding a newborn.
