2021 TLX Type S Kicks off Acuras Year of Type S
https://acuranews.com/en-US/releases...year-of-type-s
March 17, 2021 — TORRANCE, CALIF.
Acura today announced the on-sale timing for the highly anticipated 2021 TLX Type S, which returns the Type S performance brand to Acura showrooms for the first time in more than a decade. Building on the award-winning second-generation Acura TLX, which went on sale in September, the TLX Type S debuts a brand-exclusive turbocharged V6 engine, sport-tuned chassis with double wishbone front suspension and powerful BremboŽ brakes to become the quickest and best-handling Type S in Acura history. When it arrives at showrooms in late May, the well-equipped 2021 Acura TLX Type S will carry a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting in the low $50,000s1. Powering the 2021 TLX Type S is an all-new 3.0-liter Type S Turbo V6 that builds upon decades of performance engine development experience and motorsports prowess to produce 355 horsepower and 354 lb.-ft. of torque – making it the most powerful Type S yet. A double-wishbone front suspension and Type S-exclusive Sport+ driving mode also have been specially engineered to provide additional performance and driver enjoyment and, for the first time in a Type S model, power is distributed through Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWDŽ) system with true torque vectoring. The 2021 TLX Type S is available in one of six exterior colors paired with three interior options, including an all-new Tiger Eye Pearl paint and Orchid leather interior – both exclusive to Type S. Numerous exterior signatures distinguish the TLX performance variant, including an open-surface diamond pentagon grille for increased airflow, large-quad exhaust outlets and two-wheel options including an NSX-inspired lightweight wheel wrapped in a 255-series Pirelli P-Zero summer tire. Inside, Type S drivers are treated to UltrasuedeŽ trimmed 16-way power seats with adjustable side bolstering and Type S embossing on the headrests. Type S comes exceptionally well-equipped with several premium and sophisticated features from the TLX Advance Package, including the critically acclaimed and award-winning ELS STUDIO 3DŽ 17-speaker premium audio system. Detailed information about the 2021 TLX Type S will be available closer to its on-sale date this May. Since its introduction, the second-generation Acura TLX has garnered numerous accolades for its style, driver-focused performance and technology. Following its launch last fall, TLX has been named a MotorWeek “Driver’s Choice”, is one of AutoTrader’s “Best New Cars for 2021”, and the ELS STUDIO 3DŽ premium audio system earned “Best Sound System” in the 2021 Esquire Car Awards. Additionally, the next-generation passenger-front airbag earned a Popular Science “Best of What’s New” award, and TLX has also received a TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the highest possible safety rating from the Institute. About Acura Acura is a leading automotive nameplate that delivers Precision Crafted Performance – a commitment to expressive styling, high performance and innovative engineering, all built on a foundation of quality and reliability. The Acura lineup features five distinctive models – the ILX and TLX sport sedans, the RDX and MDX sport-utility vehicles and the next-generation, electrified NSX supercar. All Acura models sold in North America for the 2021 model year are made in the U.S., using domestic and globally sourced parts. The ISF also last sold 7 years ago. The rate of automotive inflation since that time has skyrocketed. I could see a modern day true ISF right around where the RC-F is priced ($70-75k)

Not to mention the RC-F starts (no options) at $65k. The IS500 isn't going to be too much less than that car...maybe starting at $59 and topping out at close to $70? I could see it.

Again the point I was making to someone else that posted, was that the IS500 will not be the same price as the just released starting price for the Type S ($50k). Option for option, I think there's going to be a $8-10k difference between the two. Even the M340i is just under $60k (with only a few options) in the US why would we expect the IS500 to be any less?

Well it is "ancient" like everyone else says. We can keep going back and forth, but I think it makes more sense to revisit this topic once we have official numbers from both automakers. |

it'll be interesting to see where the actual 'as tested' prices come in. Acura usually comes pretty well loaded from the factory. If lexus can come within $5k of the TLX with similar options i think that would be pretty amazing. $10k would be stretching it a little, although not that much of a difference if you are financing over 4-5 years (lol i'm sounding like a dealer now)

After seeing the TLX in person the first thing that you will realize is that these cars are massive. The new 3 series will look small next to it. It's well proportioned but it's long and wide like few other cars on the road today which kind of makes it stand out in the crowd. Looks alright as well but the rear end looks worse in person as there's too many creases going on. I'm not sure I can get back into a Japanese car myself but if you like Hondas or Japanese cars the Type S will likely be a good purchase.

Drove the Advance last weekend back to back with the A4. The TLX was a bit underwhelming. At least for me. Ride was ok. Road noise seemed pretty poor.
The A4 is winning the fight for my next car purchase right now.

The G70 still looks like the better value option, a loaded 3.3T is same price as the base trim Type S and you are getting a real RWD platform with the G70. With the inevitable dealer markups, these early ones will be going for more than an M340i too.

I'd rather have an M340i with almost 0 options for like 2.5k more to be honest. That would make a rather fine daily driver.

I think they're catering to different buyers, though. 10-year cost of ownership is going to be drastically different and a lot of Honda/Acura buyers aren't really considering German counterparts.

just watched the smoking tire / matt farah review looks like the car is still trash for sporty aggressive driving. 4200 pounds with 350hp. terribly slow transmission. i can't understand how honda can build some of the best manuals but their autos are so lackluster. i thought the ZF8 in my 335i was bad... but i drove a 2019 TLX with the 9 speed auto and its worse. seems like it would be a good DD though. I just can't stand any transmission that is slow or doesn't do exactly what its asked. ruins the whole experience.

wow talk about a porker.... anyone know the weight distribution on it? Must be like 60-40 or so considering how understeery it is by nature, which is the opposite of "sporty". Instant fail for true drivers, a win for grandmas and grandpas.
