If you ride in the rain, be sure to wipe the bike off after you are done. You also need to be sure to lube it before going out again. (chain, derailleurs).

i wont ride in the rain for 1 reason: my apartment is no place to clean off a dirty ass bike with caked-on mud and leaves.

i tried this one time and almost destroyed our bathtub (which is kind of like my stand in for a driveway).

at the moment my frame has been across the country in CA for 3 weeks for a repair on a carbon tube so i'm not riding anyway. it's killing me man. i mean, i've been running again to make up for it, and i do love to run, but there's just nothing like putting down mile after mile on the bike with the soft whir of a perfectly tuned drivetrain to keep you company.

hopefully i should have my bare frame back this week and then i'll commence to reassemble it. i'm taking this opportunity to replace my cables, BB, and chain since they were getting toward the end of their life cycle.

I don't plan on riding in the rain unless I get caught in it...I guess I'm spoiled out here in the Peoples Republic of California (with weather at least).

I like riding in the rain. Fewer cars to deal with, cooler temps, a little fun sliding the rear tire and a constant source of water, no need to carry more than two bottles! Pull the seatpost after a wet ride if you have a steel frame, and drain any water that might have worked it's way into the frame, then relube the chain the night before your next ride and all should be fine.

uuuggghhhh another day of no riding. what kind of water bottles do you guys have? im thinking of going insulated just because its so hot. i cant decide between these two. which would you choose and why.

They're both great. I've run Polars for years, and have been riding in the nice 105 degree heat we've had recently, and even at two hours, they're still relatively cool. I've used the non-insulated Camelbak bottles and the bite valve is really nice, so I'd imagine their insulated bottles would be the best of both worlds.

One word of advice, get 24oz bottles, not 20oz. The extra capacity is nice to have on warm days, and you don't have to fill them all the way if you're counting grams on a cool day.

I just use a Camel Bak (I know, I know), I keep my spares, my pump, etc. in it. Not popular with the roadies, but thats how I roll

Just kidding, whatever works. I wear one off road, but hate the weight and heat when on the road. I guess because I move around a lot more off road, it doesn't bother me as much.

I use a small saddle bag on my roady, with a spare tube, CO2 inflator, a chain tool, 4 and 5 mm allen keys and I carry my phone, a few goo packs and sometimes a third bottle in my jersey pockets.

I thought about doing that, the only thing that bothers me is the back sweat, it is my off road pack, I may try the bottle thing this fall when I will be drinking less water...

Even on my hour long morning rides my water gets pretty warm by the time I get home.

you guys get a chance to ride yet? i rode 12 miles. i even got escorted (more like followed by a cop) for more than half of my ride. it was awesome. i didnt have to worry about traffic or anything.

Might as well go with Carbonsport Lightweights instead of the pedestrian Zipps. You might also look into the new Cervelo R5ca, I just built one on Competitive Cyclists virtual builder, with a set of Reynolds RZR tubulars (900 grams), DI2 and plenty of lightweight components, it was a rather light 12.3 pounds (three pounds under UCI limits) and a rather uncool $21,710.
