You probably mean fps. I'm not so sure, because there's not enough room for multiple processors, like in the 1D-X. At 8-fps it's processing a ton of MBs already. The 1D-X has something like 1 Digic-5 processor and three or four Digic-4 processors. Also, it's got less pixels, hence less MB per second to process, so 12-fps is a piece of cake for it. Still, a lighter mirror and a couple of other tricks may get the 7D up to 10-fps. We'll probably need to buy even faster CF cards. Dave

And I definitely see us having to buy faster CF cards sadly, but that's the nature of the beast. I think 10FPS would be sufficient, people seem to have been happy with that for about the last 15+ years with film or digital. Much caster, and you may as well have a high definition camera at 24 - 60 FPS instead of a camera. |

Canon Rumors had an entry the other day claiming there may not be a 7D MkII coming. Just rumors, of course. But you have to wonder if Canon will come out with something to fill the gap between the ~$1000 60D/70D and the $3500 5D MkII.

that's just my opinion though. But like Dave says, if they cut out the old 1DmkIV and don't replace the 7D, there will be a whole missing segment in the Canon lineup. And Canon won't hand something like that over to Nikon. Especially with all the supertelephoto's available. Either one of the 2 cameras mentioned will have to be replaced/updated/re-encarnated or whatever to keep that segment alive. |

They are still figuring out how to have two DSLRs in one body, then we will have the 3D. ;-)
This hobby is going to get expensive.

they could make a 2D... instead of using odd numbers, it'll be primes.

Nikon guy chiming in, pre-ordered the MkIII (gulp!) Originally was a Canon user (has the first EOS 650 when it came out) but moved to Nikon when the D200 came out. Always wanted to have a 5D for the video capabilities and this looks like it should also have solid low-light chops. Can't wait...

No Canon lenses yet (ouch...) Will start off with one or two primes (35, 50, etc.) and maybe one decent utility lens like the 24-105 (?) Might still change my mind for a D800 but don't think it will have the low light performance I was hoping for.

I also recommend the 24-105... it's a great all-around workhorse lens.

I'm wondering if there isn't a big enough difference between the new and the old one for everyone to be jumping at the bit ready to grab it.
Like for example, the nikon essentially doubled its megapixels and added massive amounts of video software. As opposed to the canon getting 1mp and a few tweaks. So I see the canon crowd thinking "wait and see" as what is currently available is only steps behind. |
