I think you're doing the right thing. The ring price is subjective. If it makes you feel any better, our house is ripped to pieces with a garage, mudroom/pantry, kitchen, deck remodel and addition. My 328 needs about 2500 worth of work. I could trade it and get a 335 and have another expense or suck it up and pay the repair(s) and keep on trucking with the reno. Once the reno is done (3mos) and next spring comes along I'll consider the 335.

I'm impatient as hell but all good things to come those that wait.

some of us aren't rich like the majority of bmw owners (as per their demographics)

so 12k is a fortune for some of us.

rings are over hyped... and after one divorce im not going crazy on the friggin ring or wedding.

Typical of who? Are you the lead singer in a famous rock band?...probably not because why would you want to get married?

What about kids, is that next? You think the wedding ring/ ceremony is expensive?

And you don’t want to raise kids in an apartment, do you?

Dude, you can kiss that 335 good bye for a long time.. Hope you have "lived" life some.
So true dude........+10.

Both you and your fiance need to realize that the money you spend on that 12k jewelry (that can easily be lost or misplaced) is taking away from money you both would have to do other things, like a honeymoon or a home, or investments. I'm sure you if you both spend time shopping you can find a ring just as nice for much less.

BTW, I'm getting married in August and expect delivery of an e92 335 around the same time. My fiance is much more reasonable and understands that spending 12k on a ring for her means major cuts in the wedding and the honeymoon. There are much better ways to spend money.

Plus, even if he did open it up to a msg board, have a little class and drop the "$12k is absurd! Spend $5k and no more!" garbage. Who makes the ultimate decision of "absurdity"? Why do any of you get to say $5k is acceptable? Just because you think it doesn't mean it's true.

If he thinks $12k is perfect for the freaking love of his life, then you all should respect that. Giving input is one thing, just making snide comments based on some random personal scale of what's reasonable is another.

ejazbmw, do what you feel is right and what you want. I can't believe how condescending some of these responses have been. As if you know the guy and can speak on what's best for him.
Dude get real- even Clark only got Lois a 5k stone.........

Get ready my man...you have a very expensive road ahead of you..

I hope her parents can pony up to pay for the wedding.

I had one expensive year when I got engaged/married.

43k wedding.
6k honeymoon
12k engagement ring.
4k wedding bands
20k downpayment on condo.
15k furniture and tv's

The whole time driving an acura and dreaming of a BMW.

But the silver lining was that instead of getting an e46 2 years ago...I waited...took care of alot of more important things, and now I have an e92 335i.

Good luck man.

Congrats, but it's weird to spend your life saving for your 1st marriage...who knows....in our current society, you might end up with so many more marriages, and each marriages cost you your life savings, then you would be doomed...LOL....just a thought...but I am happy for you!!!!

Let me just tell you this, just because a girl has "her heart set on it" does not mean she should ever expect (key word - EXPECT) it.

I have my heart set on a Porsche 911 GT2, that doesn't mean I expect to get it.

Bottom line:

I would be a lot more concerned about the kind of expectations your future wife has a whole lot less concerned about a car.
Yeah i totally agree with that statement I am older and wiser. I was engaged once. IF you really love each other then you sit down and talk about it. People say you must really love her To get a 12k Ring Does she love you enough also not to ask for a 12k ring. Love should be mutual I want a Aston Martin DB9 but buying a 335 E92 also. If you have to strech for the 335i then dont get it make your self comfy in life first. House or Condo which ever you want. My current gf said i dont care what ring you get me its the thought that counts and believe me i could afford prob a 25k ring if i strech it. But i have a buisness i put money into and she understands that and own my own Condo. So yeah i could invest 25k into a ring and drive a DB9 but then other parts of my life will suffer. The whole Huge ring and 100k wedding is for shallow people. I have friends who got married at city hall and then just had a nice party in a hall and they are happy and have a great marriage . I have an ex gf who made her daddy pay 500k for a wedding and she was divorced 8 months later "thank god i did not marry her".

WTF???? To each his own but here's my take on this.

Get the 335i. Like other said, if you were willing to spend 42k+ on a new car and want to stop that because you want to get your girl a ring that costs 12K then maybe you are not in the possition to get any other them?... I mean you can finance the 12g's and pay what, 50 dollars a month or something like that?... Depending on interest rate and length of loan. If you have great credit get one of those zero percent APR credit card. It will give you time to pay it off without paying interest.

Next... It usually takes 8 weeks to get a car... So you mean to tell me all this plan on marrying her just came up?.. It must of. I mean if i love a girl, order a car, and then think about stopping the incoming car to get her the ring, then withing these 8 weeks of me waiting, SOMETHING MUST have happend that makes you want to STOP yourself from getting this car. I don't know man, to make a fast move like that, SPECIALLY when you KNOW you were going to get your car, i mean you ordered it, and in your post it says you had it all planned and you were financially set, then something must of happend withing the time period that made you change your mind. What is it?.. Do you suspect her with another dude and feel you have to do this to keep her?, did she let you have a threesome with other hot girls and you think, shit she's a keeper... ??? What happend?

Hey a girl can expect a 12k ring... Shiet i expect to have a Auston Martin BUT..... i don't have it. Because you have to think about your limits financially. I'm not going to stop to put food in my mouth to own a 100 pair of sneakers, or stop getting my planned 335i because my "girl" wants a 12k ring... I don't know how long you guys been together, but if she loves you she should be straight up with you and tell you, look i like this or that ring, BUT, whatever your heart gives me it will be good because "i love you"... I go out with my girl and i see a lot of shit i like, but i don't expect for her to get them...

Man you need to grow some hair in near your balls and man up... LIke the other dude said, his friend married in the city hall and threw a party and the married are still happy, while his ex got his pop to spend 500k on a wedding and the girl divorced... WTF??? Shit her lost right???? WRONG SHE TAKES HALF OF HIS SHIT. Get your car, and get her the ring you feel she will be happy in. And if you think she will not be that happy with the choice, then sorry to say it but, F#@ her.... let's be real bro, if she's materialistic, you have to buy her clothing and shiet, you better start thinking where this is going to lead you... POCKET WISE.

You had everything planned, keep with planed. Get your 335i because after all, when you sell it or turning it in, it will not take 50% of your financing or ownership of things. YOu had it planned and if you had your mind on marrying and wanted to act apon it within 8 weeks, something triggered it and you are moving to fast on acting on your thoughts. Calm down. Get your car, and get her a ring that is what you can afford. And if she bitches about it and your pussy whipped then work more and get her the ring when you save up the 12k... And if she's that much in a hurry to marry you, what is the rush???? Either your ballin and she wants a piece of your pie, or she knows she can get what she wants from you... Either way, if you want to get her what you can afford do it... either it's a 1k-5k ring and she'll be happy that she will be happy married to you and not just caring about the ring... If she will not be happy, take the ring back, pimp backslap her and leave her quick before drama starts... And if your pussy whipped and think, no no i can't i have to get my girl what she wants because i love her and i know she desearvs it... I must buy her it no matter what... THEN get your 335i and prolong the wedding untill you have more money left over and you can afford the 15k ring.

In the end all luck to you. If you get her the 1k-5k ring and she cries with happiness and says yes.. Congrats to you and wish you a happy marriage.
If she gets' pissed or showes she doesn't like it... Look foward to comming home from work and seeing your girl doings something she's not supposed to be doing.
If she doens't want it and wan'ts the 15k one.. Good luck keeping up with maintnence driving around another car and still in back of your mind knowing if she doens't get what she wants, she will leave you.. only problem is now she's married and will take what she can with it....
IF she is married to you by then and doesn't take what's yours, cool.... your only short 15k and a 335i..

Good luck and grow some balls!

PS-My girli plan on getting her a ring that i believe she desearves.. ANd yeah if it's in the high amounts area then fuck it i will try to save up for it. I'm not going to stop getting what's for me to get her a ring. If i feel she really deserves it, then she will have to wait untill i have enough to get it... If i want to marry her asap then i will get her the ring i like and i can afford... Either way, like my girl says "it doesn't matter, whatever my heart decides will be great!"... my girl is not in a rush to marry, and neither am i... A lot of shit can happen in time... Relax man...

It might sound wrong to spend 43k on a wedding...but thats what it was...But that is including everything associated with the wedding. Catering hall, photo, video, dj, flowers, invitations, clergy, favors etc.

As for the condo. I paid $196,000 put down $19,600 (10%) I forgot about the closing costs they were roughly $6,800 additional.
It is only a 1 bedroom, and considering the price I am in the nicest area of Queens.

While our wedding was certainly above average...It wasn't all that extravagent (?Spelled wrong?). I would say the average wedding price on Long Island is between $25k-$35k depending on the number of guests whether you have a DJ or band etc.
My sister got married about 6 months before I did and her wedding was about $38k. And she also had purchased her condo in the same development as me about 1.5 years before I did and she paid $150 sold after a year and 8 months for $212,000.

She sold her 1 bedroom 780 Square foot condo in douglaston queens and bought a 3800 Sq/ft new construction house in Keller Texas (fort worth) for $286,000.

I am currently building a home in Keller as well which is around 3700 sq ft. with an inground pool with waterfall jaccuzzi for @$300k.

Unfortunatly the market has softened in my condo development and I will most likely sell for around what I paid if I am lucky I might get around $205,000.

Even at $205,000 I will be taking a loss when you factor in closing costs, commission, and flip tax.
