For me it's too friggin' heavy to carry when I'm also carrying a 500mm f/4. If you need the f/2.8, then great, get it and lug it, but if you don't have a special need for it, then go with the f/4.

This, it's twice as heavy, out of my budget(kinda pushing it with the 4 IS even) and version 1 isn't as sharp as the f4....version 2 is over $2300

Tokina repaired my 16-50/2.8 and it worked for about 5 minutes before resorting back to the grinding noise. I shipped it back to them, once again, and they responded that the lens is irreparable and they are going to issue me a refund of the purchase price of the lens. The representative mentioned that this particular lens has been very problematic. I'm thinking about the Sigma 17-50/2.8 OS as a replacement. Any advice or recommendation? |

So I got the 70-200 is today...question, is it supposed to make clicking sounds? I think it's the stabilizer cuz when it's off the clicking goes away.

A certain amount of clicking is common with IS. If you hear it, that's ok. If your subjects hear it, there might be a problem. It should be audible only when you have the lens very close to your head.

Here ya go. Bokeh http://photography-on-the.net/forum/....php?t=1059086
object in focus everything else dissapears very smoothly and just melting away. One of my Bokeh pics. F2.8 on a 100mm Canon. See how everything blends very smoothly away from sharp focus?

Nice shot!! Very sharp, especially for a 100% crop.
I'm envious. That lens is going to be my Christmas present to myself.

you guys snap some good pics with whatever you're working with...I could only imagine what you can do with this.
it did set me back a few shiny pennies though. Thank goodness for "on-call" money, haha.

More about Bokeh...
Bokeh really isn't about the far-out-of-focus regions of an image. Everything is pretty much smoothly blurred there. Why Bokeh matters is because when portions of an image get further and further out of focus they don't always smoothly blur out (like simply increasing the radius of the Gaussian Blur filter in Photoshop). Instead the image formed by real lenses often show objects "breaking up" with some nasty looking spatial variations in the region of intermediate focus - before fully blurring out in the far OOF region. A lens that's said to have "good bokeh" avoids this tendency and tends to produce a smooth transition from sharp to blurred as the degree of misfocus increases. |

Something is wrong there. That's a $1500 body for less than a 60D? Not a chance.
They supposedly have a new 5d Mk II with a 17-85mm IS lens for under $2k? Yeah, right. More info here. Scammers, of course. Just like the Craigslist scammers who try to sell high end cameras for short money.
