Really well said. A company like Disney which can have profound influence over kids should stay out of politics and especially cultural wars. I can see why so many parents are finding alternatives like Universal or Great Adventure

Update - so we delayed the trip to now late January of 2024 and will have some friends of ours join us as well.

I'm still not very excited to do it.. but I've accepted it. Now my question is, has anyone ever done one of those VIP tours where a guide takes you through the park and you skip all lines? I'm all for teaching my kids a lesson about waiting in line and not experiencing instant gratification, but goddamn I don't wanna suffer too. I know the VIP guides are pretty pricey from what I've heard, but thinking if we split the cost with our friends it'll be more manageable.

We just went last Spring as a family of 4.
We stayed at the Polynesian for a week. Although I didn't pay for a guided Tour, I did pay extra for Lightning Lanes and a bunch of other perks that made our vacation experience fantastic! I spent @ $10k. And I consider it money well spent.
We all had a amazing time. And I will return and stay at the Polynesian again.

$10k all-in with flights as well? I guess that's what I've been lead to believe is about what it'll cost... Did you do all the parks? I'm thinking we'll do the 4 parks but spread out over 7 days.

So basically something like:
Day 1: Magic Kingdom
Day 2: Rest
Day 3: Animal Kingdom
Day 4: Rest
Day 5: Hollywood Studios
Day 6: Rest
Day 7: Epcot

All Parks. And definitely account for some down time! And staying on site at one of their Premier Resorts. The service at Polynesian was outstanding! Plus I wanted a Tropical vibe to feel like I was on vacation. The dedicated My Disney app will be a life saver for you! Including reservations for eating anywhere at any time at all Parks.

Pick a time when there’s lower turnout.

Prepare your wallet. The kids will love it no matter what.

1 week?
$10k is doable.

2 weeks,
no way.

It’ll be tight but doable for 7 days which is probably 5 days in the park, and 2 for travel.

The more expensive properties are more tolerable.

It'll be cooler at least in January. I hear horror stories of people baking in lines so January should help you there.

Did you look into Disney in Paris? Likely way cheaper and less hassle, add the flights and maybe same net price but you see Paris?

I floated the idea but it was shot down. I think this is gonna be by the books - no loopholes. She said she wants to do France, but as its own separate trip.

We tend to do things slower on our Disney trips. We usually plan two park days then a day off.

That said, we don't stay from opening to close and tend to go back to our room for a midday break.

Our next trip is a similar time period, late Jan/early Feb for an 11 night stay.

LOL women man, so she added a trip. Mine just suggested we take the kids to NYC for the long weekend, total 5 days. I'm like yeah sure, finally a solution to "Where are we gonna go this summer".... then she says no, still wants to go somewhere this summer. I'm like it's fucking May, you haven't booked yet.... absolutely fucking KM.

Lulz - we booked our Myrtle Beach trip two months ago at least now for beginning of August. I look forward to it though, drive is meh but we split it into two days so its tolerable as in I don't want to throttle all my passengers immediately when we step out of the car, but otherwise, we are there for 10 days usually plus two days travel each way, so we aim for two weeks off. Feels like you actually had a vacation at the end.

Good luck to you.

I pushed hard in March to get her to book but she cannot seem to focus or commit. Drives me totally insane.

Now, Myrtle Beach, educate me... where do you stay?

Disney World can be fun but you must plan. And you must spend an obscene amount of money. If you try to do it on the cheap, you will not have fun. If you do not plan exhaustively and learn the intricacies of visiting the parks, you will not have fun.

Stay at a Disney Resort close to one of the parks. Riviera is great being on the Skyliner, but if you are mostly interested in Magic Kingdom, that won't help you. Don't do more than 1 park per day. Spread out your visit and you will have more fun.

Buy Genie and any other upgrades available to pass the lines. Research the best routes inside the parks. Eat in the higher end Disney restaurants, but you must set an alarm for the middle of the night 60 days before your trip starts in order to get reservations. They sell out almost instantly.

I have been to 35+ countries, and my last Disney trip was the most complex trip I have ever planned. Seriously.

Also be sure to keep an eye on your kids. Lots of grooming going on at Disney! I'd bet my life savings that Iger was a frequent flyer at Epstein Island.

Well just got some quotes for our big Disney trip coming up in the winter. Looking to be about $9k not including flights. That gets us a 7 night stay in either Disney's contemporary resort or the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and 4 days worth of park tickets for a family of 4.

wow that's crazy. is that quote for a suite? or standard two queens?

and unfortunately, that doesnt include food or meal plan...right? you'll easily spend $250/day on food.

Luckily it includes the dining plan... but yeah that accounts for about $230/day.
