Their press release says " depending on maintenance history, replace HPFP and/or software upgrade". I would spectulate that the software upgrade is what most of us will get and we will still be living with the fear of getting creamed when or if the HPFP fails when the car needs to move vs getting 'limped'.

The motor is more or less the same, and it uses the same failed HPFP's that the N54 uses... So, BMW should extend this to N55 owners as well... I've had atleast 10 (3-5 second) long cranks on my N55 X5 over the last 2k miles... My longest was 6 seconds...

What about Canada?
BMW USA has issued a recall. BMW USA has extended the fuel pump warranty to 6 years, 120k miles. BMW Canada has done neither. Transport Canada has ZERO safety complaints about the BMW HPFP.
If you are in Canada and drive a 335, 135 or 535, please do the following: 1 - Take 5 minutes and fill out the "Online Public Defects Form" - third link on the attached page. http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/roadsafety/s...s-index-76.htm 2 - Call BMW Canada at 1-800-567-2691, press 1 for English, 0 for a live person. Register a complaint that BMW Canada has not extended the warranty or issue the recall like BMW USA has on the exact same car/issue. 3 - Forward this information to any other BMW owners with the same "35" engine and ask them to follow up, especially if they have had a fuel pump failure. You'll need your VIN for the Transport Canada complaint form. Only if we, Canadian BMW Owners, accumulate a critical mass of complaints will BMW Canada give us the same warranty and recall that BMW USA does. |

I for one will not let BMW mess up with my car until I hear that the recall actually fixes the problem, or when my car's pump fails, whichever comes first.

So, I had a 943 pump put in a couple months ago, as well as the software update.
Should I go in?

I had the same things done to my car. I bet this is the recall solution. You can go in, but their service records will say you are fine.

This country is full of people who just are never happy, live to bitch and moan, and love to sue over nothing. It is to the point where if someone crashes their car in the snow, they will ask why the car didn't have some warning telling them snow makes the roads slippery.......its enough already. Cheers, e46e92

I haven't seen that. I've only seen a couple threads of someone saying their HPFP had failed on their '09 or '10. But when pressed for details, they weren't sure about their exact pump model.
If you have seen any threads of people who's pumps have failed, where they knew it was the 943 pump, I'd like to see them. If I can verify that 943 pumps are failing, then I'll head in for the recall.

I had the 881 put in at 2500 miles, then a 943 put in at 7500 miles and finally a 933 put in at 9000 miles. I'm at 15K miles now and no long cranks but my car just doesn't seem as responsive as it used to. Whenever I push the throttle down about halfway there is a lag. Almost like one you get when an automatic shifts gears but my car is manual.

I still think the failures are due to seal failure because of the level of Ethanol in the fuel.
Anyway, I have had two pump failures and have gone into limp mode as have half the people on this forum who have modded their cars.......talk about people trying to get a payday. "I was so scared..it was shaking .... I thought it was going to blow up". Give me a freaking break. The car even tells you...Reduced Power mode. The first thing that happens is the car takes a long time to start up.......HINT...something is wrong. Take the car to the freaking dealer and get it looked at. |

I would put a tune in it and see if it is more responsive or just get rid of it.

You guys are all missing the point. Once an official recall, it becomes a much easier lawsuit if you ever have a serious problem because BMW is now admittedly aware of the problem and installing a "fix" to the stated problem. This is much different than simply extending the warranty on the part.

As long as your car is under the manuf. warranty there should be nothing to worry about, if it breaks down you still have road side assistance to tow your car for free, remember its 4 years of service when the car was purchased. Then get on with life........... Bring it it back till they fix it, simple solution there is CSI involved with dealers its there lifeblood in there jobs. Just some FYI to ponder about... Its just a car.............

What fuel does everyone use in the cars? High octane? Good gas not the mom and pap shops where the ethanol is usually higher. It's kinda like the 1995 v8 engines. I've seen these cars with 190k miles original owner using 91 octane the whole life. Never went to cosco or Safeway for gas. Also the new recall requires software and fuel pump. |
