I liked the moonshine piece too. They seem to be getting a bit of chemistry and comfortability going, although there are still some crazy awkward moments (almost always involving Rutledge). I think they're doing ok and they'll continue to get better. |

Top gear need some real automotive host, not some nascar guy and that crappy comedian. the reason why Top Gear UK is so successful is because all its host have been real automotive journalist, with real car experience. Have you ever read some of their work? Wow easily some of best car writing I've ever read. Tanner is really the only good host on top gear USA, and certainly the only one that can drive. Speed channel is getting ready to make a original car show, not some copy with Adam Carolla and Dan Neil who is among the very best and most entertaining and irreverent automotive writers (and he has a Pulitzer Prize to prove it), John Salley and Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire
"the untitled Speed show comes from Mandt Bros. Prods., which also just scored a series order from Food Network for the docu-series “Ice Brigade.” Carolla has been eager to do an auto-based TV show for some time. He previously hosted NBC’s attempt to adapt U.K. hit “Top Gear,” but that version never made it to air. (He’s not involved in the U.S. “Top Gear” that just recently launched on the History channel.) The untitled show has been described as a cross between “Top Gear” and Fox Sports Net’s old “The Best Damn Sports Show Period” franchise, which featured Salley was a regular. According to the pitch, the show will feature news and conversation centered around cars, as well as pre-recorded features shot on the road. Carolla, whose podcast frequently rates among the most-downloaded on the web, has been behind series such as “The Man Show,” “Crank Yankers” and “Too Late with Adam Carolla.” link:http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/13/r...channel-pilot/ |

Ditto here. The bit they did on the SLS had way too many special effects going on. Show me the car in action. I don't need to see cartoon flames blocking most of the screen. The Raptor screne was entertaining but again too many drama shots. The UK version I feel very entertained after an episode. The U.S. version I feel like I want my 60 minutes of life back.

Don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I thought last night's episode was sub par once again. I think given the show's idea; the show has potential especially if anyone saw the preview of the next episode but the hosts just seem to ruin it. Way to stiff and when they present stuff on stage, the show seems way too serious and staged. Also, why was there no car review last night?

well has anyone watched the morgan episode? tanner has seemed to be picking up richard hammond's style in the show from what i noticed. which isnt a bad thing...
but nonetheless TG usa hosts needs character. not some dude trying to fill in someone else's shoes thats already filled. and what i also noticed was that so far in all their episodes, none of them give their own personal attachment/feelings/likes/hates/etc. about the vehicle they are talking about. i mean who cant read spec sheets & numbers?

Last night's episode was genuinely laugh-out-loud funny IMO. The used car salesman bits were priceless as was the end where Rutledge gave the random audience member his Lexus for his "Member's Only" jacket. Tim Allen was also pretty good as the guest.....

i'm not sure if that's a good sign or not. it could be good - it could mean they have more advertising buys than they do show material, which forced them to do a best of. or it could be bad - it could mean they're having budget problems and had to do a best of because they can't afford to make more shows.

I was going to support them heading the right direction of Top Gear America. But the last one really disappointed me.
I ended went to bed half way through the show... I mean...if they ran out of footages...just don't do the 10th episode. Don't come and show us "season review"!!! Damn...History channel is literally HISTORY....reminding us what happened...not looking into the future...

One thing for sure though.....nowadays,they'll have to fill the gap with MORE genre's of car enthusiasts due to so many age groups looking for an AUTO related show. 1)-Vintage car lovers. 2)-F1,CART etc. 3)-NASCAR etc. 4)-DRIFT-Gymkana etc. 5)-Classic Muscle cars 6)-Tech,engineering,state of the art etc. 7)-Off road, dirt racing. 8)-Endurance etc. 9)-HHRA,drag racing. How does ONE show cover ALL of this in WIN fashion ?? All the while trying to please everyone at the same time AND stay in contention ,budget, good graces of a network bidder, get their rhythm down?? The reaction here alone should show their challenge just on ONE of those levels. Not a task for the light heart-ed for sure. |
