i've had it since 2009...i think a couple of them fixed video stuff and some NR issues on long exposures...but i dunno. none of that has really mattered to me, although the few times i've actually tried doing really long exposures, i've kicked myself.

I have to recommend a camera to my uncle who wants something easy to use (not fancy) and does the job for an upcoming vacation/trip. He wants to keep it under $400, including a decent size memory card.
I'm thinking Powershot S95? Something else? Is the S100 worth the extra money?

any other suggestions besides the S95? I think the Lumix are pretty good as well.

I've heard there's a pretty strong allegiance to it like the S95 has. But of course you're going to have brand followers so the comparisons are going to be people bashing eachother, but from what i hear, it is an excellent camera and a great option when compared to the S95.

I like the Lumix series. Especially the FZ's. I have an FZ18 and I've bought the FZ28 and 2-FZ40's, for various members of my family. They're not a camera you can stick in a pocket, though. For that you may need to go with the LX series.

yeah, I was thinking about maybe recommending the Lumix DMC-LX5. But, the Canon-side of me says stick with what you know.

snapsort has to be taken with a grain of salt. They are biased for Nikons, and recommend the D3 as the best camera ever made in the history of man.

Don't look at the votes or any of that crap, ook at what each camera has or doesn't have the fact is, they have compared the 2 cameras and you haven't, so they are already further ahead then you are in your choice the thing snapsort is missing on the site is personal experience with the units, they only have the technical information to base opinions on and a voting section, which is obviously going to be biased to either canon or nikon as they are the 2 dominant companies meaning more people own them then any other camera makes. |

I like to read the 3-star and below reviews on Amazon. You learn a lot. Some of them are just dumbasses who can't use a camera properly. But there are always legit issues that you see crop up again and again. I will say that the Lumixes (Lumii?) I've used are not the greatest when it comes to NR with high ISO. On the other hand, I've heard good things about the S95's high ISO capabilities. I've seen some really nice, nearly noise free images shot at 800 and above.
