Rest in peace, Dack. It is a sad time for many people due to this passing.

Sad, surprising news, but... a great tribute in the opening post from our forum moderator.
More than anyone else, "Dackel" has inspired my BMW & Bavarian dreams for the past 8 years, esp the past 3.5 years, going back to when I first started planning my ED trip. He provided many excellent ideas and gave so much good, detailed advice (museums, hotels, things to do in Bavaria and, most esp, those treasured Alpine passes). So much invaluable info in his many great posts (always classy, never trolling!) and also some advice/ideas directly to me. While I never met the man in person, I can say he had a significant, tangible effect on me - not just on plans for multiple trips to Bavaria (driving bimmers of course!), starting with a years-long BMW ED dream that came to fruition, but also playing a major part in leading me to discover my intense love for those magnificent, highly addictive Alpine passes. His posts lead me to make sure to try one on my M2 ED trip and I was quickly hooked - found nirvana up there! A huge part of that is thanks to our trusty European Editor - so much so that I borrowed MORE of his ideas to put together a second itinerary (a half dozen passes this time) and went back again last year, renting an M2C, to do it all over again. I can't think of any other person I only "knew" online whose advice I would, at this point, trust so blindly that I'd simply copy it from his latest posts (just last month! ) directly onto yet another itinerary (now up to ten passes) without doing any further investigation into his suggestions. Thanks for everything, "Dackelone" - RIP, good sir...
