It was a bit but I didn't know what I was doing either. I think you probably could have asked for the order number once the you plunked the deposit down.

Yeah, I hope so too. Lol, we should all meet at the dealership at the same time and make it an event!

Apparently I was mistaken earlier. Talked to my friend who was a former BMW Tech at the dealership. All our cars that come from Germany will bypass the East Coast VPC and go through the Panama Canal to the West Coast VPC before heading to Hawaii, unless something changed recently.

I placed my order on a Friday late afternoon Hawaii time, so the order banks were closed but they charged my deposit immediately. CA called me to give me the production number on Monday morning at 10:30am, so they did it right at the start of their day.

at what point does it become too late to make changes(color, options, packages or wheels)? .....assuming the order was placed on 11/15)

I'm assuming once it hits the "Entering Production" it's too late for that particular model, maybe even by the "Scheduled for Production" stage. Any changes after that would probably require a new vehicle to be built and a new production number given?

Mine is still "At the Port" since 11/15 Hopefully it'll get moving soon, the ship from Germany to the West Coast VPC takes around 2 weeks, then another week or so to Hawaii. I'd really love to have my car by the 17th when my current lease ends.

In some other boards here there are per-build week discussions that have more activity, and I assume once we get to "at port" status we are all in the same boat, so to speak. Cars from build weeks 2 before mine went to In Transit earlier this week, and build week 1 before mine went to In Transit yesterday.

Mine switched to In Transit this morning—SUPPOSED TO ARRIVE GALVESTON ON DEC 9. I am guessing that we will be able to take delivery mid December. As a side note, I am also tracking production of a Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000 Premium that should also be available mid December.

I was able to change my color while it was 112- Scheduled For Production. 150 - Production Started means no more changes.

just reviewed the receipt for the $1000 deposit. it specifically says that I, the buyer, am entitled to a full refund of the deposit, even after the vehicle has arrived the dealership, if I test drive it and find it not satisfactory.

the last time I ordered a car and waited for several months was at the local Mercedes dealer. They also allowed me to cancel at anytime and receive a full refund, as long as the vehicle purchase agreement or financing had not been finalized.

do different dealers have different rules when it comes to deposits?

There is more verbiage on mine about them selling the car to someone else before refunding deposit. My 4th car from dealer so not worried about getting treated fairly.

My particular dealer requires a $1,000 deposit, but it's 100% refundable if I decide not to get the car, no questions asked.

Yep, same. The deposit is really just a good faith thing. It's not a contractual obligation, I mean if it was that would be awful... agreeing to buy anything sight unseen just hurts the buyer.

I have to say it's oddly satisfying to track this ship.

Anyone else know their vessel? My Genius told me it the estimated date of arrival was December 12th in Brunswick Georgia... would be nice if there was somewhere I could see all the stops and estimated time.

It was not oddly satisfying to track my ship, the Grand Duke, as it sailed around in circles for days before heading west. Arrival pushed back 5 days.

I’m on the Don Quixote which is crossing the Atlantic now. Next stop Halifax (approx 12/2…. originally 11/30). Not sure if Newark NJ is the next stop after Halifax.
