If I didn't need my laptop with me, my Lowepro Flipside 300 would be sufficient. But, this time I gotta take my laptop since my iPad won't be enough.

This is coming from a guy who strapped on what looks like an Ironman suit to videotape some models.
And, which one do you approve out of the two?

I picked up the Lowepro Fastpack 250 right before my Yosemite trip. I don't know if it has quite enough room for you but fit my needs great. I wasn't sure about it and ordered it via Amazon with overnight shipping the day before my trip. Got to know the pack during the trip and must say that I love it!
I didn't use the laptop sleeve for a laptop, but it was a great place to stick maps. Oops! Just noticed that I missed a page of posts before I posted. Sorry. Just so you know the new *50 series Fastpacks do have a laptop sleeve. |

I have the Kata DR467i as my traveling backpack. It takes the T1i with the 24-105 mounted, plus four other lenses all in the lower compartment. The upper compartment carries chargers, batteries, cables, cards, and maybe one small lens. It also has a backpack compartment. It's heavy carrying all the stuff, but I've fit it easily under the seat on even small airplanes. I also have a smaller Sling 102 for just the T1i with a lens and maybe one or two other lenses for walking around. Then I recently bought a Kata Large Reporter bag, which holds everything nicely, for the car. My day to day camera hauling is in the car and the Reporter bag sits flat on the floor and has a very easy access to the main compartment through an central zipper. It's not something I'd carry around on a walking tour, though.

Thanks milo. The Fastpack 350 is nice, but I'm not a fan of the split compartments... plus I don't think all the gear I want to take will fit in it. I'm not sure though since my local camera store sucks and doesn't stock half the stuff they supposedly sell.
I went with the Kata. Should have it on Friday... worst-case is I have to pay for shipping back and get the Think Tank at my local shop on Saturday. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I'm headed back to India on Sunday until Dec. 27th. Which is why this purchase is rushed...

the think tank is very similar to mine. But mine is without the computer compartment. I do know that the carrying area in it is quite deep which is nice.
My 24-70 f2.8 sits upright in it. so does my 100mm macro when carrying it. Just to give you an idea of the depth anyhow. it's worked fine for both my 70-200 F2.8 (which is about the length of the closed off 100-400mm) and works fine for my 100-400, I've never tryed to put both in at the same time though. in that i fit, 5DII with 17-35 attached, 7D with 70-200 attached, 70-200 upright, and 2 flashes stacked in their pouches. in side pouch i have chargers, in front pouch my olympus water proof point and shoot. it holds quite a bit. I've also used the rain bag a few times, and never seen any water get in anywhere. hope that helps a little. |

Ashu,
Missed this one about Think Tank. I have both the UD50 V1 and UD60V2 I'm not a fan of the backpacks after seeing some guy have his on the ground, opened it up and out came the 1D looking body and then followed by one of the 2.8 lenses (you know the 200/300 size). I use the backpack straps to haul it around. Enjoy your trip back to India.

I own the TT Airport International 2.0 and a big LowPro backback. I've started leaving the LowPro at home and I'm thinking selling it because the roller bag is so much more comfortable for carrying such a heavy load (5D2, 7D, 24-105/f4, 70-200/f4 and 500/f4 with flash, filters, etc.). In the field, for wildlife, I carry two cameras with the big lens/7D in my hand and the 5D2 with one lens and the other in a vest, which also carries batteries, cards, filters, etc.. For shooting at a travel desitnation, I simply carry my 5D2 or 7D in my hands, usually the 5D2. Your proposed rig isn't quite as heavy as mine, but even when I leave the 500mm home I prefer the ThinkTank. I don't know the Kata, but I suspect that quality is not an issue. TT and LP are both high quality, with a slight edge going to TT. Another thing that I like about the TT Airport is that it doesn't look like a camera bag with $13,000 of equipment in it. It simply looks like a nice roller bag. I'm probably too late, but I hope that helps. Dave

I literally had to look twice to realize it wasn't rodi who replied like that...
I'll let you know how the Kata feels compared to the LowePro I have.

There's a total lunar eclipse early tomorrow (saturday 12/10) morning. For those of you in the bay area, I'll probably head out to Chabot Observatory in Oakland to take pics and to enjoy this last total lunar eclipse until 2014.
Anyone down? Here's a quick link: http://www.chabotspace.org/calendar....2011&p=1439355
