2024 iDrive9 / Pixel phone audio quality

New 2024 28i owner in Ottawa, Canada! Picked up on Thursday and the drive home was super fun with all the assisted drive modes. Really blew my mind.

Anyway, I have a strange issue. My phone is a Pixel 7. Speaking voice on the phone via Android Auto is flawless. However, if someone calls and I'm in the BMW iDrive interface, the phone audio is unusable. My daughter described it as "you sound like a monster" LOL. Likewise, reception was garbled.

I've done a bunch of searches on this but not come up with anything similar. I plan to do some testing this weekend by forcing the phone to Bluetooth only instead of Android Auto, seeing if it's consistent, etc. So far, it's happened every time (3) I've received an incoming call while in iDrive.

I've also already had the "the assisted drive functionality has been permanently disabled" error which sucks....the car only has 300kms on it and it's pristinely clean! Hope this problem gets solved as iDrive gets updates in the future...

Great forum, tons of solid info here.

My spouse just upgraded her phone to a Pixel 7 so will try and test it.

This is typically caused by either a sensor or a camera being dirty, try giving those a wipe or cleaning and see if this fault doesn’t go away.
