10-foot 7-inch window shade can fit inside the X1, just barely, but it did fit.

not sure if this is an issue that other X1 drivers will encounter, but I just want to put it here in case someone does.

I was at the local home improvement store. The roll-up window shade(for my covered porch) that I bought was the 10-foot model. It came in a clear plastic box measuring 126" x 4" x 2" and was not flexible due to the inner steel tube.

I tried fitting it several different ways. Eventually found only one way to fit it. One end was jammed up down the far right corner of the passenger-side footwell. The front passenger seat was reclined about halfway. The other end was jammed up the top left corner of the inside of the tailgate glass with about 1 inch to spare. I put some bubble wrap on that end just in case it hits the glass while driving.

Short of getting a rooftop luggage rack, I don't think anything longer than 10-foot 7-inch can fit inside the current X1.

Impressive! I’ve fit 10’ rebar, PVC pipe and iron pipe using a similar approach. 8’ long 2x4 and 2x6 boards can rest on a towel on the dash - away from the airbag area - but I securely tether them to the luggage hooks I installed in the cargo area so they won’t slide forward when braking (that would be an expensive mistake).
I’m meticulous about the interior of my car, so I always keep clean folded towels, rope and bungees in the spare tire area for our Home Depot and Lowe’s trips.

Hi Zerbitini, I see you mentioned having hooks in your new x1. My 24 28i did not come with any hooks. Just has 1 plastic cover on either side where I suppose a hook set up would have been, perhaps outside of the USA. My other SUV’s came with 2 hooks on each side (front & back) making it EZ to use to hold cargo in place.

Can you tell me where you got them & the ordering #’s? I live on the east coast.

I was too lazy to look them up, so I just asked my BMW sales guy to get them installed. He had the parts dept guy order the D-rings and plastic parts. They arrived even before my X1 was delivered. On the day that I went to pick up the X1, the rings were already installed.

I think it's kind of cheap that BMW(US) does not include them for free like other countries.

They don’t come as standard in the UK, mine certainly didn’t.

To be fair, compared to some other major countries we pay a lot less for our cars.
