iOS update weeks ago fixed this issue. I can confirm first hand
iPhone 15 Pro here

It still gets a bit warm , especially if running CarPlay and/or Waze
But that's just the nature of the beast w/ wireless charging

Our 2024 X1 M35i has no issues with wireless charging an iPhone 15 Pro Max. This includes while running Apple CarPlay, streaming music and running Google Maps.

On the flip side our 2023 M4 causes extreme heat on the same phone when running maps. It moderately heats up when just streaming, but I end up plugging it in when needing to use maps for an extended period.

You can buy USB cables with a watt display on Amazon.

There's a fan behind the X1's wireless charging pad. That's why it stays relatively cool compared to other wireless charging pads.

Any ideas how to use the lightning ports as opposed to wireless/wifi car play?

I do like the charging pad however the connection is Bluetooth for phone use and connecting via WiFi for CarPlay means the charging pad doesn’t charge as quickly as the wire (which we all know).

TIA.

CarPlay is strictly over WiFi/Bluetooth in the X1. The USB-C ports work with iPods and flash drives, but I'm not sure if you can do music via the iPhone over the lightning cable, or phone calls for that matter.

The wireless charger would be great IF it actually charged at a faster rate, but I've given up hope on that and just use a MagSafe charger mounted to my dash.
