30,000 Miles - Guess Its Time To Replace The Tires

Any recommendations on replacement tires for the X1? Thought it was interesting that the dealership was only recommending the replacement of two (the fronts) and quoted a price with alignment of $2000. Two tires for $1800, that was almost laughable, but I guess that is par for the course.

time to go to a different dealer. your dealer is obviously ripping you and other people off. online BMW dealers and my own BMW dealer don't charge that much for OE tires:
https://www.getbmwparts.com/search?search_str=245+45R19

or, just get them from the Tire Rack. the original OE tires from Pirellie with BMW stars on the sidewalls are $357 for the 20" and $240 for the 18".

That’s highway robbery! I ordered a complete set of 19” Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 tires for about $800 from Amazon, but I did have a friend mount/balance them.

I have the Pirelli and they are very bad, definitely not getting them again and wouldn't recommend anyone else does either.

regular P Zero or P Zero All Season?

my X1 came with the All Season version and I'm still not sure if like them or not.

however, my friend had the X3 and put the P Zero All Season tires on it. He said he was happy with them.(except the wear seemed a little faster than his previous set of Bridgestones)

Dont buy just tires from BMW - only with rims then its a good price.
There are alot of tires with homolagtion and two time cheaper.

From my experience last month:

BMW Dealer - Continental TS 860S - winter with homologation - 500 euro

Local store - the same tire - 248 euro with homologation

I would personally never get tires at a dealership. But that’s just me. Mine came with Michelin primacy’s. No real complaints but I feel like there’s better than OE tires out there. At the moment I’m planning on replacing them with Michelin pilot sport all season 4.

Which tires did you have originally? Did you run anything other than the recommended pressures (door label or mobile app)?

Some are reporting needing new tires at 12,000 miles so would be interested in the details of what tires lasted 30K.

My old 2014 X1 went 35,000 before it needed new shoes.

I am a huge fan of Michellin PS4 SUV tires. After trying a bunch of comparables over the years on different cars, I felt Michelin ones consistently offer great balance of comfort and wet grip. I have no idea if others outperform Michelins in dry performance, as I never really got there on family cars

Did you rotate tires? If so how many times?

Yes, typically every 6,000 miles.

Dealership tires tend to last a shorter period of time than replacement tires.
Often OEM tires begin to show considerable wear after just 20,000 to 30,000 miles. This is the situation because they are typically designed from a softer material that provides a smoother & more responsive ride.

Additionally, front tires tend to wear up to 2.5 times faster than rears on some cars like biased front wheel drive vehicles, such as X1’s whether it’s a AWD or front drive only. 🛞🛞🛞🛞
