iDrive 9 questions

Hi folks,

I have 2 iDrive 9 related questions (which I know worked in iDrive 7, on my old 3 series).

1. Is it possible to change the personal assistant wake word "Hey BMW" - couldn't find anything related

2. How does navigation respond to changing driving conditions, ie traffic jams appearing, does it dynamically change the road ?

Cheers!
CJ

2. I've found it not very responsive - google maps on the other hand, super accurate for dynamic changes, traffic jams, police radar locations etc...BMW's nav system isn't all that great frankly

2. I have the opposite experiences and found the built in nav/rtti very informative to changing road conditions (excluding speed traps) and also provided route detours in all my past and current BMWs… just yesterday I received a danger warning about slippery road ahead

Agreed, it does deliver...just not super consistent I've found. I do quite a bit of highway driving between Toronto & Québec and have tested both Google & bmw nav...preference was for Google maps as it was more consistent and accurate

1. I don’t think that video is for iDrive9. I haven’t been able to set a personal wake word on mine.

No idea...if it's not for id9 specifically, change your search query to include id9...see what results pop-up...easy peasy

Not possible on ID9 (at least for USA vehicles as confirmed by BMW HQ Genius and also the factory rep that contacted me for feedback). The video provided earlier is from 2 years ago (or more) and not for ID9. A quick look at the video info (easy peasy) would have indicated that before providing a link the video as an answer.

Thanks for posting that you got confirmation from BMW HQ Genius and the rep. I wonder if it's something that could get added with a software update. I was really looking forward to "officially" naming my car.

Hopefully but who knows. I provided that suggestion to the factory rep (iDrive 8 has an option to change the wake word). However, I had a feeling it was just a courtesy phone call and the long list of suggestions I provided will likely go into a black hole.

Thanks for all the replies so far!

1. It was my feeling indeed that this is not possible on ID9. Thanks for the feedback

2. ID7 had the option to choose from either automatically change the route if traffic conditions changed or to prompt you with a question asking you if it should

This option has gone in ID9 too, hence my question from above.

Cheers!

Just came back from a 600 km road trip yesterday.

As far as 2. is concerned, I got a pop-up during navigation telling me that a faster route was available.

Thus one has to choose the faster route manually, iDrive 9 does not do this automatically as iDrive 7 could do.

Its not true in EU, you can change it, you can make own words for start assistant, not working on my car, but on other one ive seen it working like this

Navi in ID9 is worst navi a ever seen in last 10 years, ID 8.5 is many better, in ID9 is not finished. Where are in map restaurants, petrol stations, and pois? Nothing only black/white basic map. Especially in my car is not working voice navi commands, fightning with BMW one month, and still not working in my 2024 car.

I have a EU ID9 car, and can't find where to change it - I highly doubt what you're saying is true - maybe you can tell us how to do it ? Thanks

According to Genius and BMW HQ, the option to change the wake word from "Hey BMW" is not available in ID9 (at least in the USA).
