Speed camera alerts

Hi all,

I’ve currently subscribed to the speed camera alert trial.

The system seems to only display a warning (at various distance as you approach) in the main display. There’s no audible alert and no indication in the HUD (at least when running in efficient mode with the blue diamond showing).

Can anyone please tell me if there’s an option to set either , audible alerts or notification in the HUD in any modes.

I’m a bit surprised that the update didn’t trigger a welcome “how to use the feature” message or update to the manual.

In the Safety Camera app in the iDrive you should be able to switch on the audible alerts.

If you want the alert to appear in the HUD and not the dash, you change the setting in the 'Displays' app. There's an option in there where you can choose to display either in the Instrument cluster or HUD - might be 'check control messages'.

You're right though, you'd think they could send you a link to some instructions or their youtube channel when you subscribe!

I’ve not been able to find the audible option on the X1 for the speed cameras on ID8 anyway, there are so many places it could be but couldn’t spot it.

srbs73 got it spot on. It’s not a very intuitive process, but by default the audible notification and pop up alert for the speed camera are set to off.

Once turned on, the pop up notification comes up when you’re about 400 metres or so away from the camera (can’t remember the exact distance) and counts down every 50 metres. The audible ding only comes up at the beginning of that countdown. I set the notification to appear on the HUD as it’s much easier to keep track of it and to monitor the remaining distance

Is this the same feature as the Traffic Camera warning that I have? We don't have speed enforcement cameras here (yet, maybe next year), but have red light cameras to ticket people blowing through red lights. I bought this feature just as a heads up to which intersections have these cameras, and the warning is set to pop up in my HUD. I can't remember exactly where off-hand, but there is a toggle to give audible alerts as well.

Technically the same feature, depending on country. Some countries only have one of the two, whilst other countries have both. In Austria, (and many other EU countries) we have both of these features.

We also have the traffic light warning option, which alerts you when you’re approaching a red traffic light and aren’t slowing down. However, unlike Germany and a few select countries, the traffic light warning feature in Austria doesn’t stop the car on its own at red traffic lights (yet).

I don't think I have the traffic light warning at all, but I'm also an early build (9/22), so Active Cruise Control and Driver Assistant Plus/Pro weren't even available yet.

That would explain it. I think you need DAPro for it.

So have checked and have managed to find the audible alert in the Speed camera alerts bit, I'm sure that wasn't there in the prior version because I went into that bit and don't think it was there.

Either way it's now turned on and she is going to let me know how she gets on with it today, thanks for the heads up. She wasn't happy hers didn't make a chime and only showed an alert in the HUD.

I think you're right. I think in earlier releases the audible alert was always on, then they added the toggle switch.

Well it’s working but very quiet would be very easy to ignore it. No idea which setting would change the volume mind, at least it’s now doing something.

Not sure if this works, but if you're in the radio and you select settings and volume settings you can make adjustments according to speed etc.

Increasing the relative volume of the "Gong" might help?

Increased the ‘Gong’ volume and sounds and now all is good, just turned it up a few clicks.

I'll have to follow my own advice! Glad it worked.
