I find this all really weird, my 18sd shifts beautifully in personal and efficient modes especially so at lower speeds in traffic, it’s better than my prior 2019 X3 in this regard and pretty much seamless. I don’t understand how there can be such differences between one X1 and another 🤷🏼

I have a 2017 GLA 45 and while it's a blast to drive, the DCT is not the best thing on this car for repeated start stops and basically city driving. I got use to it but would not love having it. It seems like a standard for this class of compact SUV with transverse engines or the horrid CVT most assian market cars are build.
So basically this is the main reasons I went for a hybrid, charge it daily and let those often starts stops to rely on the electric engine. At least that's what I've heard from others but will test a PHEV active tourer next week. |

It wasn't like that during the first couple of weeks. However, I eventually learned how it behaved and adapted my driving style to it... After that, it was smooth sailing. Somehow it feels very much like a Volkswagen that I once had. That old car was very jumpy, like a fast wild jackrabbit, but once I changed my driving style, it was a blast to drive.(the car right before it was a Lincoln Town Car!) I'm still getting used to the paddle shifters which is also quite fun when driving up and down winding roads in hilly countryside. Of course, I do keep it in sport mode 100% of the time, unless I'm on freeways cruising at 70mph or more. |

You can always get used to things, human nature. And they still need to fix Start/Stop lag, because it is there definitely. Let's name thing as they are
Does not remove the fact the car is great and for this price tag if you want something sporty SUV - no alternative almost. I am always in "Efficient" mode and at 7.5l/100km combined. There were question somewhere if efficient brings benefits, it actually brings. "Personal" is 8.8l/100km combined, so around 15% of savings. Will find the post with inquiry and post it there. "Sport" is at no discussion 10+. |

Indeed, no car is perfect, in fact nothing is perfect ever, faults can always be found and these boards always amplify them.
I know diesel isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but the 18sd is phenomenal and is doing 4.5l per 100km as an average 🤓 |

I must be the only person in North America who craves diesel BMW(or Mercedes) sedans or SUVs... Sadly, the Germans don't think we deserve diesel anything anymore....

It’s a shame you can’t order one, I love great diesel engines and am looking forward to the new developments and the last series of diesel engines that are due to make jt to market for 2027. I’m unsure if BMW will launch an all new X1 before the UK 2030 cut off for ICE but there will definitely be time for a facelift model which hopefully will utilise the latest d tech

The transmission in the 228 is an Aisin unit, not a ZF.

Another way to avoid Automatic Start STOP is to pull the shift toggle back to transmission sport. Take off and then toggle to drive. One can do this before car moves while foot is on brake. US M 35i.
