They were also wrong about my car being inspected at port, when in fact it was already on a ship bound for Honolulu. They are at least nice though, I'm really grateful that they don't outsource their call center like Spectrum or most internet service providers. You'd be spending the first 30 minutes of the call being told to disconnect your battery and waiting a few minutes before trying again.

But I did notice that I don't see a key slot for the mechanical key, so I'm curious of the unlock/start up procedure if your key fob battery dies, and you don't have the digital key with you? I'll have to ask at my Encore Delivery, which I need to schedule.
My friend managed to lock himself out of his e90 years ago. I had to grab his spare keys and drive to the opposite side of the island to bail him out. Apparently he locked the car while he had his trunk open, was grabbing something out of the trunk and unknowingly dropped his key in the trunk and then closed it. Trunk stayed locked and didn't reopen and he was stranded there for a few hours.

Did you ever find a solution for this?

I've only had my X1 for a couple of week. This honking issue is by far the most annoying feature. Thanks to the wonderful people of United States Postal Service, my new single house does not have a mailbox. Everybody in this new development are required to get their mail at the cluster mailboxes at the entrance of the neighborhood. There are over 100 mailboxes and even a mini parking lot in front.

When I come home, I make a stop there to get my mail. Since I can pull right up to the cluster mailboxes, I just put the X1 in Park and get out to retrieve my mail.(10 feet away) Unfortunately, that results in the double-honk which is really annoying. Turning the engine off also seems silly, since I'm not out of the car more than 20 seconds. I assume this is because I have the key fob or phone in my pocket as I get out?

When I went to the dealer a couple weeks ago, I asked the SA specifically about this as it's the most annoying feature about the car. They said they had no clear answer as they haven't had many X1's in for service yet, but when I bring my car in for the airbag recall they'll see if it can be coded off. I was hoping Bimmercode or Carly would have the ability to code ID8 on the X1 but it seems that it's a lot more difficult and they have no timeline on it yet.

It only happens with the car running and you exit the car and walk a certain distance away from the car with the key on you (digital or key fob). Pain in the ass when I have to valet the car and I'm in a hurry. Current procedure for me when I valet the car is I have to turn the car off, hand over the fob, walk away from the car so it locks (I use digital key so my phone locks the car as I walk away), then the valet has to unlock the car with the fob and get in and drive away. Not ideal, but this is the only way I've found to get the car to NOT honk.

If I'm still within unlocking range with my phone and they get in and start the car with the fob, the horn will honk. If the car is still on and they drive away with the fob, the horn will honk. It's pretty damn annoying seeing as I valet my car at least 3 times a week out of necessity.

But not annoying enough for me to turn off the digital key or unlock/lock on approach because I really love those features.

I don't think even the X3 has found how you can turn this horn issue off. Many have tried and not been able to do it. Not been in that forum much recently but that was certainly the feedback at the time.

I used to go and start the car and then lock it and defrost the windows but now the second I leave the car the horn goes off at 7am in the morning, which isn't the best.

Yeah but I've parked in my driveway and walked into my house with the fob in my pocket and the car running, and I still don't get the honk.

Maybe that's how they get you to purchase the remote start lol. I've been contemplating adding it to mine, but it hasn't been quite hot enough yet where I want to pull the trigger on it. I wonder how it works with the digital key?

I don't believe the UK allows or offers Remote start on the X1 as far as I know. Shame.

Oh wow, that doesn't make sense. I figure that feature would be very useful for people and less likely to be purchased at order compared to heated seats. I was hoping the option for heated seats would appear in my connected drive store for purchase later if I wanted, but I guess the US doesn't get that option.

my BMW CA said that almost all the X1s that he sold were ordered with the $300 remote engine start option added. (my own X1 included)

when I ordered the X1, I really wanted the remote engine start because I thought I could start the car a few minutes before leaving my office. My car was parking in the lot in front of the office building... but I have since been transferred to another office. my current office building has underground parking, so remote engine start is somewhat useless for me now. I've only really used it a couple of times. Once to see how it works and the other time to keep my cat warm in the 40-degree weather while I went inside a 7-Eleven to get something. I locked the door and once I was inside the 7-Eleven, I activated the engine with my phone.

The law in the UK is a little bit unclear and a bit of a grey a grey area in relation to starting a car remotely unfortunately. Thus some manufactures just avoid it completely and don't support it.

X1 / X3 neither have any remote solution, there are ways around it but mostly its not supported when its the engine running unfortunately.

My understanding is that in the UK, it is an offence to leave an engine running in an unattended vehicle, locked or unlocked.

It is an offence on a public road to leave the engine running whether in or out of the vehicle but nothing to to say as far as I can see that you can’t leave it running on your drive or private land.

This act enforces Rule 123 of the Highway Code, which states “you must not leave a vehicle’s engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road”.

Yes to both which is why some seem to offer it leaving it to the customer and others don't seem to offer it at all, BMW being one.

I assume that UK law does not apply to Teslas using their camp mode?

The law is about a running engine, thus how electric cars avoid that part of the law.
