I'm personally not a fan of the red badges, but you should do whatever you like best for you car. I personally removed the badges because I prefer a clean look.

I wanted the body colored mirrors and I don't think the power train of X1 is sporty enough so I rather saved some money for other more practical options.

me too...I prefer black lettering as well, but wifey saw an audi on the road with red lettering, so I tried with the red and see how she likes it...and she likes it this way...so be it for now..

I am afraid it will block the radar if I covered it....and now it's quite ok with me and makes it a little different from others.

Fair point! Learning about all the regional differences never gets old. In Austria, the black mirrors are optional on the M Sport, which I chose. I’ll change the lettering in black to match the black trim.

many Honda Civic owners also love to replace the chrome badges with red ones... just saying... (myself included, back in 1980s)

I did it myself over the weekend and it was quite easy, the material used was called plastic dip, it comes in different color in a spray can, available in walmart, home depot or lowe's. Just a few dollars per can.
you can watch the 'how to' video in youtube. It's very popular and has been going on for years.

FYI in the US you only get the black mirror caps if you select the extended Shadowline option ($300) on top of the M Sport package. The body colored mirrors are standard on M Sport.

I didn't realize that. I thought my mirror covers were the same satin silver finish like the regular X-Line. Mine is a Space Silver, so it never occurred to me that my mirrors are body color. (M Sport without shadowline)

I opted out every M or sport or X line package and mine is a standard model with the premium package plus massage seats and remote start only...and it came with the standard body colored mirrors..

How easy was the grill removal? Any issues with the center trim piece?

joy_bmw on eBay does have that shadowline center trim piece for $75 if you want that all black.

I didn't have to remove the grill. Just wrap around the grill and stuff pieces of paper in between the vertical grills and the active shutter.

$75 is not bad if I knew how to remove the grill without doing any damages..I think I am ok with the way it is now.
